I think that the tutor's ability to connect and help the student is most important. Such that they go at the student's pace and tailor their lesson plans to suit each child while still pushing the student and remaining on task such that they finish everything on time and to an excellent standard. My strengths are my patience and determination to…

To know the needs of the student and cater to them specifically. And to also motivate them to do work and exercises that will help solidify understanding and boost grades. I provide both teaching and explaining using my own resources, and I make homework tailored to each student. When one explanation doesn't work, I am able to come up with other…

I believe the most important things would be providing a supportive environment and fostering independent thinking of students with guidance. I believe studying is an enjoyment, instead of struggle. The essence of a tutor is to break down complex ideas that make sense to students, yet building up their confidence throughout the way. Through…

I think a tutor should show the concepts to understand in the most simple way. By doing so, the student will be able to strengthen it at home. I believe I have a good grasp on General Maths as well as the lower grade maths. I can also incorporate a likeminded students perspective to understand where they might be…

I think that a tutor must be able to alter the way they teach to personalise the learning experience for the student as different students will receive and reflect upon information in a unique manner. The tutor should aim to recognise a student's traits and utilise the student's strengths and weaknesses to ensure they are able to improve and…

The main thing is being able to effectively explain a topic or clear students' doubts. If the student is able to explain the topic to others, I believe that is a good indication of their understanding and shows that a tutor has successfully explained a topic or cleared doubts. My main strengths are that I am patient and eager to learn myself. If I…

In addition to that, a tutor can create a positive and encouraging environment for students to grow and build confidence. This kind of guidance leaves life long…

The most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student. As a tutor, your job is to provide tailored education and guidance unique to the student themselves in a way that a teacher cannot. Part of being a tutor is speaking, but an often neglected aspect of tutoring is listening to the student's feedback and frustrations which will inform…

Whilst a tutor should always aim to improve the student's grades and achieve good results, a tutor should have the ultimate goal of structuring the student's thinking towards the subject that portrays it in a positive light and builds a sense of confidence. This sets the student up for success in the future. Patience, ability to reframe and…

Firstly, allowing them to be engaged and enjoy the content they learn. Providing an environment that the student be comfortable in. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is instill a sense of passion for the subject they're learning. I think its very important that a student changes their prespective from "this is quite hard" to "wow i really enjoy learning this". in this way, helping them enjoy and actually like learning the material allows the student to…

Inside Doncaster EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised long division with remainders and explored onomatopoeias to strengthen both numeracy and creative language skills.

For Year 8, Lily worked through textbook review questions in measurement, focusing on applying Pythagoras' theorem to find missing side lengths in right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Daniel concentrated on trigonometry by identifying which trigonometric ratio (sine, cosine, or tangent) to use when solving for unknown angles or sides in various problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Biology, a student avoided making her own notes on cellular respiration, which meant key details (like inputs/outputs) were not fully memorised; as one tutor noted, "she needs to create her own notes to help with memorisation."

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Maths, another student relied heavily on mental calculations for algebra and skipped writing out steps—when mistakes happened, it became difficult to spot where things went wrong.

A Year 7 student sometimes struggled to identify what the question was asking in worded problems and spent extra time working backwards rather than building a clear process first.

Recent Achievements

One Doncaster East tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to attempt harder algebra questions now works through complex inequalities independently, giving every question a try and getting them right.

In VCE Biology, another high school student who used to rely heavily on hints now confidently explains each stage of photosynthesis without prompting and answers new cellular respiration questions accurately.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, a younger learner who once mixed up coin values can now count $5 and $10 notes correctly while adding up change, finishing her money exercises with no help needed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Pines Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Donburn Primary School.
