A tutor should be able to resonate and communicate well with a student firstly. Another important factor is to keep patience and listen to what the students have to say and not rush them into understanding different concepts. I am particularly good in Maths ,Physics and Chemistry having obtained A* for all three subjects in GCE A -Levels.I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empower them to become independent learners. This involves building confidence by providing encouragement and celebrating successes, fostering a belief in the student's potential. Teaching students how to learn, not just what to learn, including study skills, time management, and…

A good tutor can analyse the strengths and weaknesses of students, and guide them accordingly. Mathematics is all about practice and being exposed to different variations of questions, and a tutor should be able to acknowledge the students' situation and prepare the most suitable practice exercises for them. My most advantageous strength is my…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to empathize with the student on how he finds difficult to catch the concepts and ideas. Also, this is to let them express what they find difficult to understand. Aside from mastery of concepts of Math, Physics and Engineering Science subjects, I have developed different techniques of…

Building the trust between the tutor and the student is what I believe it is most important. I felt that if I didn't build the trust with my students, then no matter how much I try, they will not improve. Therefore, building trust - looking confident and knowing what I am doing. My strength is making sure the students understand the concepts.…

The most important thing would be to create a safe space for students, so they will feel welcomed and understood. This can build their confidence as well. Once they feel safe, the students can ask any question and tutor can help them and fill their knowledge gap. My strength would be perseverance, adaptability, and emphaty. I would try and give…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to inspire a student to love what they are studying and enjoy the experience of learning. Excellence will surely follow after. The most important thing a tutor can do is to ignite a student's curiosity and passion for learning. When a student finds joy in the process, success naturally follows. All students are different, and they have different needs. Providing the right support is crucial in my opinion. Understanding where exactly the student needs help, and…

Be their friend and role model. Students have already enough to deal with in school. They need someone to listen to them and help them to clarify all their doubts. In a nutshell, I think a tutor must be : --> A friend --> An academic trainer --> A mentor --> A planner As a tutor, i focus more on an overall development than just focusing on the…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is to provide academic guidance, human connection, and motivation and drive interest of the student towards the subject. I believe that the tutor shouldn't be the one always in control and leading the session. Especially in early sessions, I believe the tutor should encourage the student to ask many questions of them, to grasp what they know and how they interpret different topics. Tutoring almost becomes useless if the tutor is the one constantly talking because…

I believe tutors have the potential to really change a students attitude and opinion of school, a great tutor will not only teach a subject but teach a student to enjoy the subject through sharing with the student the things that make the subject enjoyable to them, and this has the potential to totally change a students academic life. I have been…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is the ability to allow the student to improve exponentially whilst enjoying what they are learning, because from my experience, once I have understood and learnt a concept, applying and solving problems become much easier and fun in a way. I believe not only providing answers, but instead guiding a…

What do you consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student? Making sure that all of my student's questions are answered before the end of the lesson is one of the most important things in tutoring in my opinion. Inside Double BayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Eva focused on finding the area of triangles and converting tricky fractions to decimals, using worked examples for clarity.

In Year 7, Emmanuel tackled review questions on expressions, equations, and inequalities while also refining his problem-solving approach as misconceptions arose.

Meanwhile, Year 3 student Isaac practiced multiplication with emphasis on the 2 and 3 times tables and spent time reading analogue clocks to reinforce understanding of time.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Chemistry student hesitated with back titration and struggled to express key ideas clearly—"she was unable to phrase this concept succinctly and with clarity," noted her tutor. This meant exam responses were incomplete or vague, affecting marks.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student's test performance suffered from weak time management; she often left questions unfinished.

In Year 4, over-reliance on counting boards slowed basic addition and subtraction, making it hard to move beyond simple sums without aids.

For a Year 8 student, skipping steps when rearranging equations led to confusion in algebra tasks and lost working marks.

Recent Achievements

One Double Bay tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who had previously struggled with pH calculations manage to work through multi-step problems independently after some targeted practice, even explaining the difference between strong and weak polyprotic acids.

In Year 8 chemistry, another student who was hesitant with solubility rules last week was able to solve multi-part questions on her own after extra explanation.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 3 has started checking her addition answers by counting in fives—a big shift from past weeks when she wouldn't suggest ways to self-check at all.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Double Bay Public School.
