Explain things so that a student fully understands and is able to apply their knowledge to questions, I don't want to just teach memorisation or remembering steps, because I believe actually understanding what you are doing is much more worthwhile. I have completed Maths Specialist, Maths Methods, Physics and Economics in high school and achieved…

I think the most important thing is to be simple - not confuse the child with an overwhelming amount of information but rather take things slowly and ask directed questions to take them to each step of the answer. I have always had an intense dedication to doing well at school but despite long hours of work put in, I didn't always get the best…

Over the course of a tutor's time with a student, the most important skill they can provide is the ability to think both critically and universally, fueled by a hunger for knowledge. That is to say, both a stronger and more capable work ethic. Analysing how a student mentally approaches problems, communicating to them precisely what their…

It is important to motivate them and help them understand the importance of scoring well. This allows them to choose their education and career path earlier on. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being able to develop a strategy for each student they have. Not all students learn the same way, and being able to come up with techniques to help different students plays a key role in the academic development of a student. Some of my key strengths include, being able to support the…

Often if students are seeking tutoring, they are struggling or in a place of doubt about their abilities. Providing a comfortable, safe environment where students can feel reassured about their own abilities is so important. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence gradually and encourage active thinking. One way to improve academic confidence is to provide realistic goals and highlight progress and also normalise mistakes as part of leaning. If I had to simplify in one word it would be listening. Listening, I would argue, is without a doubt the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. Force feeding infomation to a student who feels they have no say would be unhelpful. It is of upmost importance that the tutor listens to the student, recognises where work needs to be done and…

At the fundamental level a tutor's role is to make sure that a student understands the material. Therefore, the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to go over mistakes made in previous tests/assessments and ensure the student has a good understanding of the previously covered topics and principles before moving on. Additionally,…

Inside DoubleviewTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Josh tackled algebraic techniques, including factorising and expanding expressions, as well as working with indices and applying these skills to worded problems.

For Year 11, Sarah explored rates of change and optimisation in calculus, using textbook examples and graphing for better visualisation.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Ava worked on understanding fractions and mixed numerals, introducing key concepts through step-by-step explanations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often arrived at correct answers in maths but, as one tutor noted, "could work on solving questions in a more efficient manner to increase speed and reduce possible confusion"—slower methods led to lost time on tests.

In Year 8, messy working and scattered layout during ratio and division problems made it difficult to spot where mistakes occurred.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student avoided bringing assigned English reading or required maths materials, limiting how much support could be given each session.

For one senior STEM project, brainstorming stayed too broad—focusing narrowed too late for effective progress.

Recent Achievements

One Doubleview tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's approach to calculus—after previously getting stuck on optimisation questions, she now works through them independently once the method is explained, and even asks for tougher examples.

Another high schooler who used to just show answers is now routinely writing out full working in algebra and general maths, showing greater care with each step.

Meanwhile, one Year 4 student who would often guess at unfamiliar words during reading now regularly pauses to ask for help instead, making her reading sessions much more accurate and confident.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Morgan has progressed in his math quite well, he feels more confident, and feels better about his results in class as well. My wife and I are considerably happy with how Morgan has progressed since we have been using the service and would gladly recommend the service. We would like to commend and thank Meneka for her tutoring and actually making math easier for him. It got to a stage where he refused to let us help him, and him only wanting Meneka to help him. So she is definitely a great tutor.

I really did get enjoyment out of helping the students understand theory that they didn't before, and it was satisfying each time they said "I get it now". I would recommend Ezy math tutoring to other tutors as they are very professional and they locate students that are close by to your home to reduce travel time. The interview process is very professional, leading to the quality of tutors of a high caliber.

We are incredibly impressed with our tutor, Serena.  She is a gifted and most dedicated teacher.  Her ability to extend our daughter has been remarkable and we are thrilled to have her continue with Miki.  Thanks for a wonderful program.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Scarborough Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Doubleview Primary School.
