I believe it is highly important to listen to your students. All students learn in different ways, if the method used to teach the student is not effective it is very important to switch strategies in order to ensure the student gets the most out of the lesson. I want all my students to enjoy our sessions and see it to be beneficial to their own…

I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. My goal as a tutor is to approach material proactively, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to ask 'why?' and 'how?' instead of passively accepting information at face value. I believe in creating an environment where students feel…

Empathy is key. If a tutor can show how learning certain topics can help a student in the future, it keeps the student's interest held in the subject for longer. What really helps is to periodically give some positive feedback to the student about their progress - how he or she has improved in the past 3 months, or month, for example. Because of…

Building confidence, Simplifying the complex and connecting on a personal level. If a tutor is able to achieve these three, they will find a successful outcome. I am patient, hard-working and relatable. In everything I do, I pride myself on team-work and its importance to success. Whether it be coaching or tutoring, I don't stop until my clients…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build trust, encourage genuine confidence, and teach students how to learn independently. It's not just about helping them get through one subject or assignment, it's about giving them the skills and self-belief they can carry with them into everything else they do. I think my main strengths…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence and foster independent thinking. A good tutor guides their student to understand the "why" behind concepts, helping them develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This is essential in ensuring that the student is able to independently…

There is a quote by William Butler Yeats that captures the essence of what I believe is crucial for a tutor: "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." This means that a tutor's role is not just to transfer information to the student, but to spark their curiosity and interest in learning. Therefore, the most important…

Personally, being adaptable and flexible in your teaching is the most important thing a tutor can do for any student. As individuals, we all learn at a different pace through a variety of mediums. Hence, it is important to easily recognise this and cater your teaching for each student. This creates a personalised and catered experience which is…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is understand the student’s point of view and teach in a fun, engaging way that makes it easier for them to learn. Tutors should have a genuine interest in helping their students learn. My strengths are that I have experience as a tutor, I’m friendly and patient, and because I was recently a high…

A good tutor can raise interest of the student. Once the student feel interested in the subject, then he/she will be keen on learning new things. In addition, tutoring is more than teaching, and students are more engaged and proactive. I have strong interest in maths and I have my degree in commerce, this would be helpful for students who wanna…

A tutor should be able to explain concepts in a manner which allows students to understand the concepts and apply it elsewhere. A tutor should assist students in understanding concepts on a deeper level, rather than just rote learning. Furthermore, a tutor should be passionate in what they teach. A teacher that is passionate about subjects will…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

A tutor should build trust, listen actively, and empower the student to believe in their abilities. The most important things that a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are motivating the students to learn on their own as well as arming them with the tools and study skills. The motivation to learn is critical, since the tutor can teach the material, but at the end of the day, it is the student who has to master it. Without such…

Have a lot of patience and not get frustrated. Find a way of explaining or doing something that the child understands. Not giving up. A tutor can make a student love the subject he/she hates. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the student, his/her interests, aptitude, and what he/she is inclined towards. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them to learn for themselves. Local Reviews

I needed a sensitive, switched on tutor that would enthuse & engage my 9 yr old who was extremely resistant to the process. Liaising with ezymaths was easy & smooth. The tutor recommended has been wonderful. In a short period of just a few months, my daughter's proficiency as well as confidence has grown significantly & this is substantiated by her school teacher as well. I would recommend this service definitely.

Inside Dover HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Olivia focused on addition and subtraction of large numbers as well as introductory statistics questions, using Mathletics practice to build confidence.

For Year 10, Lukas worked through a range of simultaneous equations and also practiced finding the equation of a line from parallel and perpendicular lines to prepare for upcoming assessments.

In Year 11, Alex reviewed fractional indices and binomial products, then tackled exponential equations and rationalising derivatives with support from targeted worksheets and textbook problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student repeatedly arrived unprepared, forgetting past papers and missing key revision materials; as noted, "he did not bring the past papers that I had previously given him." This disrupted lesson flow and meant less time was spent on practice with True Bearings or Financial Math.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often lost focus during multiplication drills and grew frustrated when unsure of next steps—leaving gaps in basic numeracy that lingered into later sessions.

In primary years, one child hesitated to tackle challenging questions out of low confidence, which led to avoiding essential practice with time-based problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Dover Heights noticed a big shift with Oliver (Year 11), who started identifying his own weak spots in algebra and, after some targeted practice, was able to complete previously challenging questions independently.

In Year 9, Taiaroa showed new persistence: though he struggled at first with fractions and percentages, by the end of the session he could convert between decimals and fractions without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ruby (Year 4) moved past her earlier hesitation with number patterns—she now recognises them confidently and remembered most of her timetables during their latest session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kesser Torah College.
