I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

The most important thing that anyone can do for their student is to have them realise that everyone started where they are starting, nobody was born knowing anything, and just because you don't understand a concept now, doesn't mean you won't ever understand it. One of the most important things a tutor can do, other than assisting them to excel in all areas of learning is to instil them with the confidence to learn. This is crucial as it allows students to believe that school work/learning is to be something that is fun rather than a “chore†or boring. Once this occurs, the student begins to engage…

It is so important for tutors to adapt their method of teaching to the way the student learns. Every student not only has different needs and difficulties, but learns concepts differently. Local Reviews

I needed a sensitive, switched on tutor that would enthuse & engage my 9 yr old who was extremely resistant to the process. Liaising with ezymaths was easy & smooth. The tutor recommended has been wonderful. In a short period of just a few months, my daughter's proficiency as well as confidence has grown significantly & this is substantiated by her school teacher as well. I would recommend this service definitely.

Inside Dover HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Olivia focused on addition and subtraction of large numbers as well as introductory statistics questions, using Mathletics practice to build confidence.

For Year 10, Lukas worked through a range of simultaneous equations and also practiced finding the equation of a line from parallel and perpendicular lines to prepare for upcoming assessments.

In Year 11, Alex reviewed fractional indices and binomial products, then tackled exponential equations and rationalising derivatives with support from targeted worksheets and textbook problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student repeatedly arrived unprepared, forgetting past papers and missing key revision materials; as noted, "he did not bring the past papers that I had previously given him." This disrupted lesson flow and meant less time was spent on practice with True Bearings or Financial Math.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often lost focus during multiplication drills and grew frustrated when unsure of next steps—leaving gaps in basic numeracy that lingered into later sessions.

In primary years, one child hesitated to tackle challenging questions out of low confidence, which led to avoiding essential practice with time-based problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Dover Heights noticed a big shift with Oliver (Year 11), who started identifying his own weak spots in algebra and, after some targeted practice, was able to complete previously challenging questions independently.

In Year 9, Taiaroa showed new persistence: though he struggled at first with fractions and percentages, by the end of the session he could convert between decimals and fractions without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ruby (Year 4) moved past her earlier hesitation with number patterns—she now recognises them confidently and remembered most of her timetables during their latest session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I just wanted to let you know that Arielle's recent yearly Maths marks were the best she has ever had. Usually he marks are in the high 30's ( the test is out of 60) but this time she scored 50 out of 60! Arielle was thrilled and I know this has really boosted her confidence regarding her Maths abilities as she always felt Maths was too hard. I have noticed a definite change in her attitude to Maths tutoring with Ivan. She no longer dreads the session and is able to remain focused and attentive the whole time. This has given her the confidence to begin her new school next year with a positive attitude towards Maths.

Once again I really appreciate your help over the last few months. The structured format that EzyMaths brings to tutoring appears to provide a clear framework and guidelines for the tutors to work within. Combined with a really outstanding young tutor in Calvin this has had been very beneficial for Dom. I congratulate you on a great model and wish the business success for the future.

Shay is really enjoying the tutoring and Ben is a great tutor.  She is already improving in her maths, which was the objective.  Shay even does her extra math homework without argument which is amazing .  We look forward to working with Ben for the rest of this term and next year.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kesser Torah College.
