Getting my students into the headspace required for success. I believe tutors exist to help extend the foundations of what students are taught in schools, whether it be through analysing old concepts with a finer view or reinforcing newer concepts with carefully selected examples and analogies. I believe I am quite capable of exercising patience when a student is trying to understand the subject, trying to…
To develop critical thinking and a problem solving attitude in a student so that they can themselves breakdown a complex question into easier, doable sections to reach to the solution. This will help the student to clarify their concepts without the tutor directly providing them with the solution but instead leading them through a simplified…
Make the student love the subject. There are many ways varying from a student to the other. If a student falls in love with the subject, he will comprehend it, not just learn it. I started tutoring when i was in undergraduate to my own class fellows and that was in 2002. With such a vast experience i have amazing teaching skills built-in…

Being patient. A lot of teachers get frustrated when students do not understand concepts the way they teach them. It is important to teach every student in their own way and be patient with the teaching process. Otherwise a student's confidence and motivation to learn is harmed. My biggest strength would be communication. I am adept at explaining…

A tutor can teach according to the need of a student which is not possible in a class. Even a child can tell his or her weakness frankly which they can't express in the class I start from the basic. I teach according to the need of a child. I can teach the same concept number of times until the child understands. I can teach all the types of…
According to me, the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to hold his hand and guide him in the most suitable way such that the student falls in love with the subject. Help the student overcome their fear, and develop new skills to improve and work on their weaknesses. I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. I strongly believe that it's important for the tutor to motivate the student to be confident and answer irrespective of the answer being right or wrong. Students are…
A tutor can guide a student to succeed. Not only in studies, but life in general. In primary, tutoring often targets core arithmetic—addition, subtraction, times tables, fractions, and building number sense—while also pushing for deeper comprehension, not just rote rules. High school sessions shift to algebraic thinking, graphing, interpreting questions, and developing strong exam strategies. There’s a big emphasis on breaking down word problems, revisiting tricky homework, and test prep for NAPLAN or semester exams, always tailored to what each student finds hardest right now.
Recent Challenges
Some primary students rush through comprehension or maths tasks without fully reading instructions, leading to incomplete or off-target answers. In high school, it’s common for students to have scattered or unclear working, which makes multi-step problems harder to check and fix. Other frequent hurdles include forgetting materials, leaving homework unfinished, or spending revision time catching up on missed basics instead of moving forward—all of which can hold back progress and lead to confusion.
Recent Achievements
Tutors are noticing students becoming more proactive during lessons—regularly checking their own work, spotting errors, and making corrections without being asked. There’s a clear shift toward students verbalising their steps in maths and explaining their reasoning aloud, rather than rushing through problems. Tutors also report that learners are reviewing their test results with more care and taking the initiative to improve, showing greater confidence and ownership of their progress.
What they say about our tutoring
Thank you for your follow up email. Yes it all seems to be going along fine with Ben. I think Cassie is finding helpful and slowly building her confidence again. She was quite a bit behind and struggling so I understand it will probably take a little while. She had a maths test last week which Ben appeared to provide a thorough preparation for her.
We have been very happy with Kancelot, Nathan seems to be taking to him very well and his influence has already shown improvement. Nath's confidence has already lifted somewhat, even though the results have not yet improved. It will take some time, we understand that and I think Nathan is on board with that as well.
Both Thomasine and Luke are liking Scott as well. He has always been on time and is very polite. Jonathan and I can't believe our luck!
