I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them feel capable and supported. Many students who seek tutoring already experience self-doubt or frustration because they feel behind their peers. By identifying these gaps, setting achievable goals, and providing consistent encouragement through the learning process, a tutor…

I feel the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create an environment in which the student can feel safe to question what is being discussed and openly communicate lack of understanding and vulnerability. In my opinion, the worst thing a mentor can do is to appear unapproachable. When I was in this position, my mentor was very…

I truely believe that the most important thing as a tutor is being there for your students. You not only have to give your best to help them you should also be a person of trust for them. In a lot of situations those students have problems beyond the school like in private life so that affects their grades. By just talking with them personally and…

They can be the person they look up to whilst talking about their passions/what they want to do in the future etc. However one of the greatest things students can learn from their tutor could be from their own experience such that it will be more reliable and inspiring than any other theory I love working with kids, especially during my school…

A tutor should set a good example for the student by punctual, respectful and approachable. A tutor should help the student set clear goals and monitor their progress. Above all, a tutor needs to believe in the student's capacity for growth, self-discipline and excellence. I think that I am very structured. I try my best to relate to students and…

I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. Without this we can't understand where the gaps are in the students knowledge OR whether they really do understand, but just in a different way. I have infinite patience, I can adjust my communication style, and I when faced with something unfamiliar I have…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and make sure to keep the student motivated while being honest with him/her. A tutor should also be able to adapt to a student's personality and should have an array of teaching method for the different learning styles. I feel the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to ask questions and generate interest in the topic. Help the student build confidence. I find many students have the knowledge to solve problems but lack the confidence in themselves. So my aim to help them grow their confidence in the subject, and thus improve their ability aswell. I am very organised and find what learning techniques suit the students and create lesson plans around that…

Making the subject more exciting for the student is the best thing I believe a tutor can do for a student because with this strategy students would always be eager to learn new things and put more efforts towards it. Be patient with them. All students are different but also everyone has the capacity to learn. It is up to the tutor to understand their students (how they think, their learning styles etc) and tailor their approach to meet their needs. In my experience, there are two really important things a tutor can provide for a student. A tutor's primary responsibility to their student is to strengthen their knowledge of a subject, diving deeper into topics they may have already studied or simply reinforcing concepts they are struggling with. While this is the predominant purpose of a…

A tutor should know the students' questions and worries and find ways to deal with rather than teaching them general knowledge. In this way, students can improve their grades and know how to perform. Another important thing is that students need to be nurtured with a good habit in learning, which is essential for their future studies. I am majored…

Local Reviews

Patricia has been instrumental in helping my son go from a D average to an A student. She promoted a learning environment for him that made him feel comfortable and confident and that has had a snowball effect with his results. Seeing him improve his grades in maths also gave him the motivation to put in more effort into his other subjects. I would highly recommend Patricia. Outside of tutoring time, she would always go out of her way to send him revision and relevant resources. We will miss her smiling happy face!

Inside Eagle FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Josh focused on solving simultaneous equations and revising quadratic equations, with extra practice using the quadratic formula.

Year 10 Rebecca worked through long division of polynomials and explored real-world applications of derivatives in function analysis.

For Year 11, Lincoln tackled trigonometry with a deep dive into the unit circle and exact value calculations, while also reviewing compound and double angle formulas for sine and cosine.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Maths Methods student recently moved from General and struggled to catch up, missing foundational concepts and feeling "stuck when questions were framed differently."

In Year 10, a student avoided tackling worded problems, focusing instead on familiar algebra drills—this limited real exam readiness.

For a primary student, hesitation and lack of confidence in mental arithmetic led to second-guessing answers; as one tutor observed, "confidence seems to be a big factor."

Meanwhile, another senior missed homework set on algebraic rules, resulting in gaps that showed up during revision quizzes. Missed practice or incomplete tasks meant these gaps persisted into assessments.

Recent Achievements

In Year 10, Clara had previously hesitated to ask questions when stuck, but now she readily speaks up for clarification and attempts new problems independently—she even tackled factorising quadratic equations on her own after guided practice.

Phoenix, a senior student, struggled with using Excel for his maths assignment at first; by the end of their sessions, he was confidently creating scatter plots, analysing regression lines, and interpreting statistical trends without prompts.

Meanwhile, Olivia in primary school became noticeably more engaged during online tutorials and started using the interactive whiteboard to complete algebra worksheets with minimal support.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hamilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hamilton State School.
