I personally think the most important thing is to cater to each students individual needs and strengths, as not everyone is the same. Different students will require different approaches to the same topic, so I feel like I am able to do that if necessary. I believe my strengths lie in my strong logical skills to be able to help in many areas of…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to inspire and encourage them to take charge in their learning and step outside their comfortable zones to learn new things and expand their horizons. This encourages students to become independent lifelong learners and creates a positive attitude towards learning. My strengths as a tutor…

Ultimately, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is instill self-confidence within the student, positively change a student's view and approach toward learning, and assist in improving student academic performance. In my opinion, a tutor is more likely to achieve these positive student outcomes if they are consistently: - Honest,…

Firstly, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to what the student believes they need to work on and aid them with that. The student needs are the highest priority and it is important they feel heard and listened to. Additionally, I believe that it’s important that we as tutors take the time to acquire extra…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be someone that can focus on just them (1-on-1), where a teacher cannot, and to find a specific way to teach them based on the students needs (i.e. How the student learns best?). A teacher is unable to do this as much as they have many students to focus on. But tutors can…

I think the first step in the journey between student and tutor is to build rapport. If the student does not feel comfortable in the space and time allocated, the learning achieved will be sub-optimal. The main purpose of a tutor is to expand the tutee's tree of knowledge in a holistic manner. There is no point simply explaining the knowledge behind 1 leaf if it has nothing to hold on to, ie. the trunk and branches. If the leaf has nothing to hold on to then it will fall. So the tutors job is to find the best and most empathetic way from their…

Inside East BrisbaneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Yuvaan worked on blending and segmenting sounds to read CVCC and CCVC words, as well as counting forwards and backwards to 35 and identifying numbers before and after.

Year 8 student Dihen focused on writing complex sentences using conjunctions drawn from "The Lorax" and practiced multiplication arrays with place value blocks.

For Year 10, Olivia completed chemistry revision sheets covering balancing chemical equations and naming ionic compounds, using a mix of review quizzes and workbook activities.

Recent Challenges

Unprepared and missing materials delayed starting practice questions for a Year 11 chemistry student, and left key terminology (like 'subatomic particles') unfamiliar. This meant time in the session shifted from problem-solving to basic setup.

In Year 10 English, an essay draft was over the word limit and lacked clear topic sentences; when prompted, the student hesitated to revise independently, relying on feedback rather than initiating edits.

For a senior maths lesson, skipping written steps—"he needs to write the steps he follows"—made it difficult to check work later or spot errors during revision.

Recent Achievements

One East Brisbane tutor noticed a high school student who previously took twice as long on review quizzes now catching her own mistakes and halving her completion time—a real shift toward independence.

Another older student has begun editing English essays concisely, justifying points with stronger vocabulary after struggling to expand ideas before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once hesitated to blend sounds is now reading fluently and segmenting tricky words with ease, even sequencing days of the week aloud without help.

In their last session, he chose which word tiles to use for new blends and read them out confidently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Both my sons, were tutored by Adam. We were very happy with his work. John has now finished school and is in his second year at University where he doing very well. We stopped seeing Adam when Paul started to get A+ marks in Maths and did not require extra support. Paul will finish Year 12 this year and we are told by his school that he should receive excellent marks. We were impressed with the communication between ourselves and your team.

Patrick is a wonderful asset to your company.  It pleases me so much that Patrick has a wonderful understanding of my Son capabilities with in only 5 lessons. Thank you for sending Patrick to us.

Mike has been great and very patient with Chelsea.  Most importantly Chelsea is feeling comfortable with him and starting to open up and ask questions. He is also very organised and we are really happy.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as New Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Anglican Church Grammar School.
