The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build a good connection where students can really share personal academic problems and the tutor can help them improve on the same. It's just fun, I am things in a simpler form, and story-making and clearing concepts are my main strengths as a…

Apart from Academics, I value teaching life skills and life values to students. They should be a good person before being a good employee. As a tutor I am strict when I have to be and lenient when the situation requires. It’s always good to change lanes when required and not stay put on being strict. Each student is a different person and it…

I think a tutor can bring out the inner talent of a student. Suppose a student who could not able to gain a good marks in exams or failing continuously, I will give that student mental support. I will give him or her motivation by telling that you can achieve anything in your life by doing hardworking. The most important thing is that a tutor can…

According to my experience of tutoring high school students, the biggest challenge that students could face is the psychology in their mind which tells them they are not capable of doing that particular subject. As a tutor, I am highly aware that giving moral support is one of the most crucial things in tutoring. Another important thing would be…

Ideally, although admittedly ironic, you want a student to be able to stand on their own two feet and achieve their goals without the need of a tutor at some point. So, although the direct role of a tutor is to teach content, the wider, arguably more profound role of a tutor is to teach lifelong skills, habits, and techniques that students can…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to break a concept down to its simplest form. In my school days, I often found this to be the easiest way to learn. If your basic foundation of any concept is strong, it gets much easier to build on that and learn more complex information pertaining to it. Moreover, being…

Most important thing for any tutor is to understand their student well. If they know the students quite well only then they could develop the educational materials and classes that caters the student's need. An effective tutor nurtures a student's confidence in tackling math challenges, tailors teaching to individual styles, provides emotional support, imparts practical problem-solving skills, fosters independent learning, sparks and sustains interest in math's real-world relevance, and tracks progress while setting goals. In essence, a tutor not only…

The assistance for gaining problem solving ability allows the student to solve about 50% of the task and remaining 50% comes with practice. In my humble opinion, I believe that ACTIVE LISTENING is the most important quality that good tutors must possess. - Good tutors must recognise that students generally have an idea of the topic at hand. Instead of simply continuing to "teach" it is vital that tutors ask students of their understanding of the topic so that gaps in knowledge can…

Samantha, East Cannington

Inside East CanningtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Sarah revised factorisation and practised graphing quadratic equations, using worked examples to clarify each step.

Year 9 student Ali focused on applying index laws and solving algebraic equations, building confidence with targeted practice questions.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Aiden worked on addition and subtraction of hundreds as well as tackling basic word problems to strengthen foundational number skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working was hard to follow—handwriting and layout issues made it "difficult to spot errors with negative signs," as noted by the tutor.

A Year 11 maths learner often relied on their calculator for multi-step equations but sometimes entered numbers incorrectly, leading to wasted time rechecking answers.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student skipped writing out double-digit division steps, trying to solve everything mentally; this caused frequent carrying mistakes that slowed progress on paper tasks.

In English reading for Year 7, skipping full question prompts led to confusion about what needed answering.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in East Cannington recently noticed a Year 9 student who had struggled with factorising was able to expand and factorise expressions independently, tackling tougher questions after only minimal hints.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student, previously hesitant to ask for help, began pausing mid-problem to clarify her thinking out loud before trying new strategies on her own.

At the primary level, one younger student who used to avoid reading aloud now asks to read the next page during each session—last week he finished an entire chapter without needing prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cannington Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gibbs Street Primary School.
