Modern History Tutor South Geelong, VIC
The most important things a tutor can do for their students is make themselves available to them when they are needed and to make them feel supported. Showing patience with them and confidence in them gives them an added boost to their own confidence knowing that someone believes in them. I believe my strengths as a tutor are my patience and…

Modern History Tutor Wandana Heights, VIC
I believe understanding a student on a deeper level and giving what he/ she needs. That could be motivation to move ahead , assurance of being there with them , confidence to explore interests and lastly a friend so that they can openly tell if they are not understanding something. I have always loved kids and I completely understand there are…

Inside East GeelongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Eliz revised subtraction and decimals, practised arithmetic problems, and was introduced to Roman numerals using practical examples.

For Year 8, Ava tackled Pythagoras' Theorem with visual aids and worked on unit conversions relevant to geometry topics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sam focused on calculus skills—differentiating functions using the chain rule and quotient rule—and applied these techniques to exam-style tangent questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student was repeatedly forgetting to bring her books and calculator home, making it difficult to review progress or check homework completion. As a tutor noted, "she tends to forget to bring her school books but always has an alternative task prepared," which disrupted the session's flow and limited targeted support.

In a senior Maths lesson, another student relied too heavily on mental calculations during Pythagoras' Theorem practice; missing calculator use led to avoidable errors.

For one Year 12 learner, skipping double-checks in exam questions resulted in minor mistakes going unnoticed—extra time was then spent searching for what went wrong instead of moving forward.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in East Geelong recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with tough maths problems; she now jumps into challenging questions and usually completes them with hardly any guidance.

Another high school student was excited to tell her tutor about scoring well on her Pythagoras test after working through tricky algebra together—she needed very little help this time, which was a first.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often waited for prompts has started describing pictures in English lessons without being asked, showing real independence by choosing her own words each session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Everything is going well with Warit. Evan is happy with him so far. I trust that will continue.  He's comfortable to ask if he doesn't understand something. Warit has given Evan some good maths tips with his times tables that Evan has understood.

Emily is doing very well and Melanie is great. Emily is really comfortable with her and although it is early days she is improving. I am really happy with Melanie and the progress so far.

In a nut shell, we are very happy with Tamara and Laura's progress so far. Her teaching techniques are excellent, exactly what Laura needed & to top it off she is very well mannered and very patient. You can also see that she genuinely enjoys teaching/educating her students. It's a shame there are not more teachers like her!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newcomb Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret's School.
