In order to establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to human interactions. This interest will certainly have a positive impact on a child discouraged by the school and his or her bad grades. Through his or her good mood and motivation, the tutor will be a model for…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them in any way they can, this does not only apply in an academic sense but also in aspects of the students life (eg. dealing with stress, etc.) I can easily explain harder concepts in simpler terms, making it less intimidating for students when encountering new topics. Furthermore, my…

I think that communication and being on the same page (figuratively) as your student as very important. Younger people can often be hesitant to admit that they don't know something, so it is important to break down any barriers and understand the students needs. I am determined, patient, mature and motivated. I can try different methods of…

it is ver important to repeat the context in new ways which are unclear until its understandable for the student and mostly a tutor should be able to share there knowledge in such a maaner that the student would never forget the lesson learned in a particular day. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are threefold: - offering explanations of and guidance for specific topics and skills - matching the learning levels of the student whereas the content discussed should neither be too easy nor too demanding - tutoring in a non-judgemental fashion whereas failures are treated as…

For me, a tutor's job is more than just assisting students in their academics. But more importantly, a tutor must be able to motivate and inspire students of who they truly are and help students discover their true potential by being a role model and building a positive relationship with students in the long term. I have the ability to grasp…

It's important for every tutor to believe in their student. Tutor is a guidance and the support. A right tutor can shape the future of the student. As the Chinese proverb goes: "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for lifetime". Hence I would say tutor plays a very important role in shaping the education and career of the student by teaching him/her the right…

Inside East KillaraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Alice focused on financial maths and applying Pythagoras' theorem, referencing the Cambridge textbook and EUKA resources.

Year 10 student James revised algebraic techniques with indices and worked through polynomial graphing, also reviewing exponential growth and decay using practice questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student tackled definite integrals—working through areas under curves—and practiced volumes of revolution using cylindrical shells and disc methods to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student often avoided showing full working in algebra and geometry tasks—"he should elaborate a bit more on the working outs," as noted—leading to missed marks when mental steps went unrecorded.

In senior mathematics (Year 12), there was a tendency to rely heavily on notes for new topics like chain rule or integration, which slowed problem-solving and limited retention: "Requires looking at notes for now."

Across multiple grades, late arrivals and forgotten content were common, resulting in time spent catching up rather than practicing challenging applications.

When feedback was offered after complex calculus errors, corrections weren't always consistently applied in subsequent sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in East Killara noticed that one high school student, who previously hesitated with multi-step trigonometry questions, now confidently connects triangle sides to trig rules and solves problems without prompting.

Another senior student, after struggling with z-scores, recently tackled standard normal curve table questions on their own and quickly applied formulas for annuities and loan repayments.

In a Year 5 session, a student who used to guess when faced with fraction multiplication now pauses to convert percentages to decimals first and explains each step aloud before answering.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ku-ring-gai Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Killara High School.
