Simplify concepts in an understandable personalized way for them to understand at their own rythm. A tutor can relieve the preassure of due dates or schedules from the classroom and advance along with the student. Focusing on understanding how the student learns, ask them about their interests and being able to relate the subject with something…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and adapt to their learning style. Everyone learns at their own pace and style, so it's essential to learn what it may be and utilise that. One of my biggest strengths as a tutor is my strong communication skills. I feel I am able to explain concepts clearly and adapt…

Tutors can help with homework, projects or just help the student gain a more thorough understanding of the subject. Every Tutor’s main goal is to help the student with questions, clarify content and provide challenging questions back to the student to test the gained knowledge. The better tutors don’t just do this, they set goals for the…

As a tutor, I could assist students to understand their subjects by motivating them involving an interactive class with students. When I went to tutoring, I had the best experience by having a very motivated, interactive and interesting tutor. I will try to become one of them though I'm still yet to gain formal experience of tutoring In addition,…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are as follows: -Making sure that the student understands the content that is taught , instead of only knowing how to complete questions. This will allow the student to apply their knowledge to unseen question. -Be a friendly person that they can talk to by getting to know the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is inspiring them into studying. I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

As tutor, answering kids' questions kindly and patiently is one of the most important things. It is also important that we check with them if they understood the topic. Children often hesitate asking questions due to the fear of judgement and hence it is our duty as a tutor to give them a comfortable space where they can ask things repetitively…

Being able to meet the needs of the parents and students. Every student is unique and they have goals that they wish to achieve. I believe that the tutor shouldn't be the one always in control and leading the session. With my personal experience and from what I have seen with friends, a tutor increasing a student's marks is only about 30% of the true benefit. What really changes, is your whole approach to learning. To be frank, I used be to near the bottom rank for math at my school, roughly 90/125. After going tutoring and experiencing success for the first…

Inside East LindfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student James focused on consolidating money calculations and tackling worded multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions.

In Year 9, Trai worked through plotting linear equations from tables and practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages while also reviewing rounding strategies.

For Year 11, Mario completed exam revision by practising logarithm questions alongside trigonometry and quadratic factorisation problems to strengthen his understanding before assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, a student frequently left working out blank when solving money questions and converting cents to dollars; as noted, "we didn't have much time at the end to cover it," which led to confusion when reviewing.

In Year 8 algebra, another student avoided writing steps and often erased work, resulting in repeated sign errors—"he rushes his work and does not write down his working making it easy to make mistakes."

For a Year 11 probability test, incomplete homework meant weaker recall of methods for combinations; missing practice resulted in stumbling on exam-style tasks under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in East Lindfield noticed a big shift for a Year 10 student who, after struggling with bearings questions last week, managed to get nearly all of them right on her recent test.

Another high schooler showed real independence by solving for x without prompting by the end of the session—previously, he'd always needed step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to confuse fraction placement could now accurately order fractions himself, finishing up by explaining his reasoning out loud for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lindfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lindfield East Public School.
