I believe it is important for a tutor to pass on good studying tips which will not only aid the student while they work with the tutor but for future endeavours in their education. I believe I am a very calm and welcoming person which would allow for students to feel relaxed around me. I also am capable of explaining a concept in a variety of ways…

While I believe it is obviously important to help a student learn and understand their chosen subject, it is also important to support and encourage confidence in a student. I found during my schooling years that the subjects I most succeeded in were ones where my teachers were kind and encouraging - it allowed me to feel comfortable to ask…

To ensure that learning is engaging, and independent but with support so that they can grow in confidence and require less assistance in their learning. Another important thing a tutor can do is ensure that the mental health of students are prioritised as this plays a large role in their enthusiasm to study and in a larger part of their life. My…

Inside Ebbw ValeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Summer worked on BODMAS, with a focus on how brackets affect calculations, and explored spatial patterns using questions from her maths book.

In Year 8, Jamie practised addition and subtraction of integers and then moved onto more advanced topics like ratios, rates, gradients, and straight line graphs, sometimes using mini-exams for consolidation.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sarah tackled index laws as well as finding the highest common factor (HCF) and lowest common multiple (LCM) in number problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often hesitated to check their own algebra answers, instead waiting for confirmation—she still relies on me to tell her if the outcome is right or wrong—which made building independent problem-solving skills slower.

In Year 11, a student struggled to remember all steps for profit/loss calculations; forgetting formulas led to gaps during revision sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student's tendency to read too quickly meant missing details in comprehension passages and making mistakes at punctuation marks.

One Year 10 learner skipped practicing harder percentage questions, risking weaker recall outside familiar topics. These moments chipped away at confidence during class discussions.

Recent Achievements

One Ebbw Vale tutor noted a Year 10 student who used to freeze up on worded maths problems is now breaking them down independently and selecting the right formula for each step, working with much less prompting than before.

In a recent Year 8 session, a student who'd previously guessed at grammar questions started underlining errors in complex sentences and explaining their choices out loud.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once hesitated over reading longer words is now tackling new chapters aloud and even catching tricky homophones while reading together.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I'd care to share something with you.  Whilst our son, Jordan has yet of course to complete his HSC and not wishing to tempt fate, his trials are over.  Last year, Y11 he received the award for #1 ranking in general maths.  Unfortunately his teacher moved overseas and let's just say the relationship between him and his new teacher wasn't as before.  His ranking swiftly dropped to sub 15!  To compound matters, 10 students during Y12 dropped down from 'advanced' to 'general' pushing Jordan's overall ranking to sub 20. Then we came to you for help.  Since Jordan has been studying with Suraj his standards steadily began improving once again and we're extremely happy to report that Jordan's overall trial's exam results pushed him up to 4th.  Remember, this included those who dropped down to 'general.'  Now that's a positive outcome.  Naturally, full credit must go to Jordan but without your assistance we would be facing a very different outcome.

Nathan has really put great effort into getting to know Ronan, what makes him tick and where he can get the best out of him.

Everything is going well so far with Georgette and Sophia seems to enjoy the hour she has with her this week.  She appreciates some of the new strategies she has learnt.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Redbank Plaza Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bundamba State Secondary College.
