A tutor is someone who just not explains what is right or wrong or not or just gives the answer directly, but instead makes sure that the student, one is teaching has understood the concept extremely well and can relate to his or her own work and can work perfectly without the tutor's help. Also, the tutor should be aware how the student works…

The most important thing that an economics tutor can do is teach them to learn. Not everyone learns the same way so we should identify the childrens strength and cater to their needs so that they can become good independent learners in the future My biggest strength as a tutor is patience. The most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is make them love what they are studying and also make the subject one of their strengths. A tutor is similar to a teacher, therefore giving the knowledge of what the teacher knows to a student is the most important thing as a tutor. As a student I know what I expect from my tutor…

They shouldn’t feel embarrassed in asking any question as the best learning happens only when you’re curious. It’s extremely important that the student first understands the…

Inside EdinburghTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Amelia worked on finding the circumference of incomplete circles and calculating the perimeter of irregular shapes, using diagrams to visualise each problem.

In Year 8, Archie revisited BIDMAS and fractions after a recent test, with extra practice on fraction operations and order of operations.

For Year 9, Suhana focused on trigonometry by solving for unknown sides in triangles, reinforcing her understanding through step-by-step examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, skipping written steps led to sign errors—"he said he could do it in his head," a tutor noted, but missed negatives crept in.

In Year 11 biology, hesitation to ask questions during revision left gaps around mitosis and meiosis content, with the student needing "encouragement to talk through her thinking process."

For a Year 7 maths test, a reluctance to show working meant fraction mistakes weren't caught early.

Meanwhile, one primary student's overthinking during multiplication drills caused confusion and slowed progress; time was lost re-reading rather than solving.

Recent Achievements

One Edinburgh tutor noticed a high school student who previously rushed through maths problems now carefully backchecks her work, catching and correcting mistakes herself without reminders.

Another secondary student, after struggling with negative integers, recently completed his homework on adding and subtracting them with only two errors and quickly grasped multiplying negatives when introduced.

In a primary session, a Year 3 learner who used to get flustered by lots of numbers is now calmly breaking maths problems into smaller parts and no longer panics at the sight of a full worksheet—she worked through all her skip counting questions independently this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I have seen improvement already. Jason is a gem and I want to continue with Will having his weekly tutoring session.

Priscilla is wonderful with both my boys. I would recommend her without hesitation.

WE are very happy with Adam. He is an excellent tutor and he is engaging them both very well

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Playford Civic Centre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Elizabeth South Primary School.
