As a tutor I can provide various educational skills that can help a student that may struggle in a particular subject. As a tutor it is extremely important to provide patience to every student. Every student is different and requires skills that can enhance their own personal abilities. The most important thing I can do is help the students find…

The most important thing as a tutor for a student is to provide the best possible resources and support. This will allow the student to feel motivated and have self-confidence to complete during a test. My strengths as a tutor will be support of the students current position and understanding of the subject. Being patient is another strength as it…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give them the opportunity for real self-development. From my own experience during the HSC, I had to learn many lessons the hard way, and I realised that success isn’t just about understanding the content, but about building systems that help you learn effectively. A good tutor…

Geography Tutor Catherine Field, NSW
To help both their knowledge and their confidence. Feeling like you understand a topic is amazing and when a tutor can make a student feel confident and rewarded then I think they're achieving one of their main objectives. My knowledge and understanding of my subjects, especially math. Also having informally tutored I have developed strategies and…

Content Covered

Year 3 student Christian worked on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers with carrying, mastered vertical multiplication, and practiced long division using the "bring down" method; he also learned to compare fractions by finding common denominators and solved word problems involving measurement conversions.

Year 10 student William focused on trigonometry, including sine and cosine rules for solving triangle side lengths and bearings questions, while also tackling area calculations for rectangles and triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah addressed function notation with domain and range, financial maths concepts, and essay writing practice exploring themes in *The Handmaid's Tale*.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Mathematics, one student's lesson notes revealed a habit of "not keeping up to date with the notebook," leading to missed revision and confusion when breaking down complex questions—especially in trigonometry and graphing.

In Year 6, a pattern emerged where homework was incomplete or forgotten; as noted, "he has forgotten some of the concepts I taught him before and also has forgotten to do it."

For another primary learner, rough written work during area calculations made it hard to spot errors, which slowed progress on new concepts. Each instance meant more time spent revisiting basics instead of advancing confidently.

Recent Achievements

A Year 10 student who used to hesitate when tackling trigonometry questions is now willing to attempt problems independently, even if she isn't sure at first. She's begun asking clarifying questions rather than giving up.

In Year 7 maths, one student who previously struggled with converting between units of measurement has started checking his work for errors on his own and can now convert from millimetres to kilometres without help.

Meanwhile, a primary schooler began verbalising each step of long division out loud—a change from quietly guessing—and finished all practice questions using the "HMSB" method without prompting.
