To just listen. As counterintuitive as it sounds, listening is more important than teaching. As a tutor one must fully grasp what the student wants and needs and how they best learn. To be able to pick up on non verbal cues if the student is too shy or uncomfortable to ask for help. Everyone learns best in a different way, so a tutor needs to be…

According to me, the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure that the student feels comfortable enough to talk about their doubts and not feel judged. This also helps the student to study better. • Developed my communication skills by talking to different students and their parents. • Demonstrated leadership by motivating and…

The most important role a tutor plays is providing personalized mentorship to each student depending on the student's learning requirements. Additionally, a tutor should provide a comfortable and relaxed space for the students to learn and express their thoughts and concerns. My biggest strength is my humble, kind and easy to approach…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with support for their weakest strengths. I believe that it is crucial that tutors are able to cater to the student's needs. As a tutor, I am able to work well with students. I have a natural skill of presenting content in ways that cater to the student's style of…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster confidence, promote understanding, and encourage independence. It's not just about providing answers—it's about equipping students with the tools and mindset to think critically, problem-solve, and take ownership of their learning. A good tutor helps students identify their…

What I enjoy most is seeing that moment when something finally "clicks" for a student, especially when they’ve been struggling with a topic. It’s rewarding to know I’m making a real impact in their learning journey. I care about each student’s progress and want to see them gain confidence not just in their subjects, but in how they…

I believe that as much as it is important to help the child improve and gain confidence, it is also important to build and maintain a tutor-student relationship. This enables students who don't tend to be open in class and speak up when they have questions to openly do so during tutoring sessions. This is something I have been able to achieve with…

The most important this a tutor can do for a student is to support them through their learning, whether they are improving or may be struggling. Having a support person to guide you through how to manage academics without judgement is very important to me. Furthermore, giving a space and environment where students can openly make mistakes and…

To instil confidence in themselves as it can take them a long way in terms of motivation and improving their learning by being positive and motivating. Tutors have the unique opportunity to be the person the student gets to ask all their questions to and really get down to what they need help with. I really cater for the student's needs and what…

I think a tutor has a lot of power in empowering a student and making them love learning and love the subject. If a tutor can reorient a student's perspective of a certain topic and make the student learn it, it enables the student to engage more with the subject and hopefully increases their passion for learning and education in general which I…

One should be updated and prepared enough to answer their student’s questions. I believe that teacher should always motivate their students and this will help them to gain self-confidence. I’m patient and calm. I can tell my students same thing for 10 times if they are really willing to understand. If I’m teaching I make sure that…

I achieve this though understanding unique learning patterns and teaching specific effective study habits and processes which reduce the stresses and anxiety which are all too commonly associated with exams and assignment deadlines. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being able to empathise and put themselves in the shoes of their pupil. This allows the tutor to help the student more effectively and create a better connection which will facilitate the learning process. Inside ElanoraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Bella focused on writing a creative narrative inspired by a favourite book and completed English worksheets covering sentence structure, abbreviations, homonyms, and onomatopoeia.

In Year 8, Willow worked through fraction operations—including simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions—as well as tackling written problems involving fractions.

Jeremy (Year 10) reviewed Pythagoras' Theorem using practice questions and revised key measurement topics such as perimeter, area, and volume to prepare for his upcoming exam.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student's "I can do this in my head" approach led to skipped written steps in algebra and fractions—making it hard to spot sign errors until the end.

Another, working on Year 11 Chemistry, occasionally forgot to bring her notes or calculator, meaning class time was lost looking up formulas instead of practicing reactions.

In a Year 6 English session, incomplete written paragraphs were common; as the tutor noted, "her responses need clearer structure and shouldn't be rushed." This meant that when feedback was given, she struggled to apply it fully before moving on.

Recent Achievements

One Elanora tutor noticed that Jeremy, a high school student, now checks his own work on algebra and trigonometry problems—something he rarely attempted before—and has started correcting mistakes with minimal prompting.

Willow, also in high school, used to hesitate when tackling fraction operations but recently managed to convert and compare fractions independently during her session, showing clear progress from previous uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Bella in Year 6 showed new initiative by asking for extra homework and was able to spot and fix errors in her paragraph about clouds without being reminded.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

So far so good. The kids are actually enjoying their time with Agnes so that's s good sign. Jaren came out of last weeks tutorial session saying "well you learn something new everyday". It just gives them more confidence with mathematical concepts, I think they're getting something out of it. Thank you.

Sofia was progressing and Sofia was very comfortable with the tutor. She gave Sofia a lot of help and her understanding of maths had improved and she learned to enjoyed maths, even the homework set and that surprised me. Thank you again.

Chelsea loves Melanie as her tutor. She is a great tutor, smart, very friendly, and very patient. She has all the quality as a tutor and we did like the way she taught Chelsea. Thank you so much for giving Chelsea the best tutor, we are happy with everything.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Elanora Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Palm Beach-Currumbin State High School.
