I think its important that tutors are invested in helping students learn to the best of their ability-listen-understand different questions that a student may have and try to create a sort of path that directs them towards understanding a concept (i think this is important because it helps them realise that they've got what it takes) I'm quite at…

The most important things that an english tutor must do for students is to always demonstrate patience and love towards them. It might take time for them to understand the lesson so you have to bear with them. My strengths as a tutor is that whenever I revisit lessons that I learned in the past, I am passionate to learn/relearn about them and I…

As an english tutor, I believe the most important things a teacher could do for their students is making them feel encouraged and secured. Promoting education in today's society is something that should be dominated and put first. In my eyes, a child's education is the first step towards a child's success. Encouraging students and providing them…

The most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to be approachable. For a tutor to be a successful guide, the student must feel comfortable in discussing their issues and weaknesses. They must seek to answer their own questions and bring up problems that need to be addressed. I pride myself on my patience, diligence, and…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to not only assist in their studies, but also to be able to work independently but know when to ask for help through the students ability to detect errors and my assistance when possible. Overall I believe that for a child to succeed they must be put at the centre of their learning. This will ensure that they get the best out of their education, and that all learning that takes place is for the best interests of the child. My strengths as a tutor is building strong reciprocal relationships. To me this is crucial for a child who is…

The most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to understand each student’s behavior because all the students are different from each other. You must need to understand how each student’s behave so that you can also know how to react and know how to communicate with your student. Though this, you can find an idea on how…

Identifying a student's weaknesses and strengths not only in a subject but in their general approach to life is very important. Honing strengths and working on weaknesses will allow tutors to tap into a student's potential. Deeply considering how and why a student is performing the way they are is also very important and allows changes to be made.…

One of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to not only teach content but to be there as a mentor. In my opinion the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure that the student truly understand the various concepts taught. The first thing is showing them achieving anything is possible no mater how hard the task. Even if at first it seems impossible, by not giving up on them it can teach the student to always try and have faith in their abilities. The second thing is setting them up for success. A tutor is a mentor for his students. For a tutor, it is necessary to have full knowledge of that field he/she is teaching. As tutors, we should provide a safe space for students that would make them realise that it is okay to make a mistake. Next, we should also make students feel that they can achieve their academic goals. Continuously giving them positive feedback is helpful as well because it would motivate them to work harder. And lastly, as tutors, we should…

A tutor can make use of the two kinds of experience he/she has. Secondly his experience as a tutor means a patient engagement with his student, where in the…

Inside EmertonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Sidney worked on recognising and ordering three-digit numbers, skip counting by twos, fives, and tens, and using place value to build and partition numbers with hands-on activities.

Year 10 student Omar revised non-linear equations through targeted worksheet problems, then shifted to English by brainstorming essay ideas for a discursive writing task based on key scenes from the film Pleasantville.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex focused on surds—converting between index and surd form and simplifying expressions—as well as expanding brackets with surds and rationalising denominators.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often overcomplicated basic operations, forgetting steps in simple algebra when moving quickly to advanced surds work—"he sometimes forgets what to do when faced with simple operations and gets caught up in doing the more advanced things."

In a Year 8 exam setting, careless mistakes crept in due to difficulty maintaining focus and managing time under pressure; answers were left unchecked, costing marks.

Meanwhile, a primary student showed eagerness but misread multi-step instructions on number tasks, sometimes answering only part of what was asked before moving on. These habits led to missed marks and unfinished revision worksheets.

Recent Achievements

One Emerton tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to get stuck simplifying surds is now confidently converting between surd and power form, and even rationalising denominators with less hesitation.

In another high school session, a student who typically relied on graphing software finished all his classwork using only manual calculations—showing new independence.

Meanwhile, Sidney in Year 3 surprised her tutor by quickly learning to count off the decade without a counting chart after struggling at first; she also spotted number patterns many peers miss. She wrapped up the lesson choosing to complete blank worksheets independently for homework.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I want to thank Ezy Maths Tutoring, as Joshua seems to have connected well with David and is working with his strengths. Already we are seeing a difference in the confidence of David to tackle his Maths and is being guided to see the areas that he is lacking instead of total self doubt of thinking that he knows nothing .

Sam has been an excellent, kind, understanding and patient tutor with Gabriella. Under his guidance she has made improvements in her outcomes and study habits in spite of her great difficulties with the subject. She had gone from a fail grade to a pass mark and has steadily applied herself more consistently to regular study thanks to Sam. We have nothing but praise for his abilities.

We really cannot speak highly enough of Conaire. He is communicative, polite, always on time, and most importantly, highly competent with maths. From their first meeting, Tim has enjoyed and benefited greatly from his tutoring and encouragement. On a scale of 1 to 10, Conaire rates a 10+ (with no exaggeration at all).

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Emerton Public School.
