A tutor must provide academic guidance and support to the students by assisting them with any struggles they may be having in a subject to boost their academic performance. Building a relationship and cultivating a connection with students is also very important because the more the student connects with the tutor, the more comfortable they will…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that the information and skills being taught are useful to the student. To be able to identify the areas of which a student is having a hard time and adapt their way of teaching. Understanding that the students learning is the number one priority when teaching and that…

PDHPE Tutor Regentville, NSW
Be empathetic... Often students are going through a lot more than just school and/or sport, and sometimes tutors do not realise this when they're loading them with a lot of information. By being empathetic and patient that tutor is able to consider that needs of the student and alter sessions accordingly to ensure the greatest bang for the buck. I…

I believe ensuring the student understands and takes away a good learning experience each session. I believe working on the child’s weaknesses and progressing their strengths is important for their learning experience. My strengths are being able to explain topics in different ways for students. Especially in PDHPE and Business Studies I…

PDHPE Tutor Caddens, NSW
The most important thing a tutor should do for a student is make them feel good about themselves. If the student develops a mentality where they feel as if they will never be able to learn something, they wont. It will be my job as a tutor to encourage them to believe in their own capabilities and further expand on this with different teaching…

Inside Emu HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alexia focused on multiplying and dividing algebraic equations as well as simplifying expressions in preparation for an upcoming test, working through targeted worksheets.

A Year 10 student worked through Pythagoras' Theorem using practice problems and diagrams to reinforce understanding of hypotenuse calculations.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student James tackled advanced calculus concepts including differentiation and integration, alongside trial exam questions that included word problems involving displacement, velocity, and acceleration.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to remember sign conventions in algebra and often used the wrong operation, which made solving equations confusing—"careful with which method to use to solve expressions involving addition/subtraction and multiplication."

In Year 12, a senior faced difficulty planning multi-step calculus problems, as seen when setting up integrals for shaded regions; without breaking down what each question required, confidence wavered during practice.

Meanwhile, a younger student's messy layout in geometry led to misreading perimeter vs. area formulas.

Across year levels, skipping written working or minimal revision resulted in old topics fading fast by test week.

Recent Achievements

One Emu Heights tutoring session saw a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to ask questions now independently pausing the lesson to clarify points in chemistry, showing much more active engagement.

A Year 12 student recently made a breakthrough with calculus—after weeks of struggling with derivatives, he confidently wrote out equations without prompting and explained the logic behind his answers.

Meanwhile, a primary student who used to rush through maths tasks was observed carefully checking her long division work and self-correcting errors before moving on, finishing her worksheet accurately for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jarryd is proving a great find! Meg's already doing better and feeling more confident, so we're very happy. Thanks for finding him for us.

Katie is great and things are all going very well. Both Michaela and I like Katie very much.

Thanks for organising Matt for tutoring. Tom had a great first session with him and said he 'got heaps'Âť out of the experience.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blaxland Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Emu Heights Public School.
