Inside Enoggera ReservoirTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lily focused on Pythagoras' Theorem and introductory trigonometry, using diagrams to connect right-angled triangle problems with real-life scenarios.

In Year 9, James worked through solving linear equations as well as expanding brackets and applying these skills to worded questions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ava practised finding the area and perimeter of composite shapes and tackled length calculations by breaking down multi-step problems together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, skipping steps when rearranging equations led to confusion over which values needed isolating—"he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

A Year 7 student's maths revision focused mainly on familiar problems, leaving harder fraction conversions unpracticed and resulting in uncertainty during worded tasks.

For a senior student tackling compound interest in Maths Methods, not checking the compounding period within questions caused repeated misapplication of formulas.

In a Year 5 setting, incomplete annotation of diagrams meant units were missed when converting measurements from word problems, making final answers unreliable and slowing progress.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Enoggera Reservoir noticed a Year 10 student who had always hesitated with factorising quadratics now working through null factor law problems more independently—she expanded brackets and found values for factorisation with less prompting than before.

In a recent Year 8 session, a student who previously guessed when converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats started using clear step-by-step reasoning to solve worded time problems accurately.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student who struggled to create frequency tables from questions managed to build one unassisted, then used it to find the mode of her data set.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

that Harry would get to the stage where he could do it on his own. I have been very impressed with the results he has been getting and they have far exceeded my expectations so the tutoring has been an outstanding success. I don't want to finish it though just put it on hold while we work on physics for a term. I hope that is ok with you and David.

We have been impressed by Callum's diligent approach to helping Georgina, his wit and time flexibility have made things as easy as possible for her. With warm regards.

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how happy we have been with Sigrid  who has now had 4 sessions with our son, Andreas. She is a very caring and enthusiastic young lady who, over a short period of time, has built a lovely rapport with Andreas. In turn, Andreas feels very comfortable with her and looks forward to the sessions. Sigrid's competence and the commitment she displays are commendable and have resulted in a noticeable improvement in Andreas's confidence and his motivation towards maths. Many thanks for sending her our way.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Arana Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Upper Brookfield State School.
