To help students understand what they can do or what options they have when they have questions or problems is important. Exclusively giving answers and solutions doesn't help students think critically and understand clearly. Instead, allowing students to figure out what they should do or comprehend certain ideas deeply would be something…

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish [and give him a rod] and you feed him for a lifetime." The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel at ease within the subject being taught. These include: making sure they do not put too much pressure on themselves if they do not understand a topic, and giving them the confidence to ask questions. Complete trust and availability on the part of the tutor is also important.…

The most important things i can do for a student include asking the students how they answered certain questions, allowing them to realise where their errors are and learn off of their mistakes. Being able to regurgitate questions into smaller sections is the key in answering exam style questions, thus it is very important for a tutor to be able…

I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to ultimately inspire them in a love of learning and hopefully pass onto them capsules of knowledge which are priceless. 1. To raise the student's confidence level. One of the students' mom commented on how I was always encouraging her daughter, and she found that so important, because if her daughter kept feeling bad about herself and kept doubting her abilities, she would probably never be able to do well. 2. To make the session interesting. It would be tough for…

Mirella Stone, Erindale

Inside ErindaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack worked through multiplication strategies and early decimal concepts using visual aids to strengthen understanding.

In Year 11, Maya focused on solving quadratic equations and interpreting their graphs, building skills for upcoming assessment tasks.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Alex practiced exam-style questions involving complex numbers and began revising composition of functions in preparation for next term's topics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student often avoided showing working for subtraction and multiplication, especially with times tables above 5x. "He hesitated to attempt harder multiplications," a tutor observed, which meant money problems and fractions felt overwhelming in the moment.

At the senior level, a Year 11 student missed a lesson entirely, causing gaps when starting new algebra content; test preparation was rushed as a result.

In another case, a Year 10 student tended to forget to write full answers ("Forgetting to add +c" in calculus), which led to marks lost despite understanding the method.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Erindale recently noticed some real progress with a few students. One high school student who used to struggle with integration felt much stronger during their latest session and even reported that their most recent integration test was probably their best yet.

Another secondary student, previously hesitant to ask for clarification, has started to openly discuss mistakes on practice questions, making it easier to address gaps together.

In the primary years, Aryo—who often got distracted—has begun working through his homework more independently and even remembered to bring it along without reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We have had our introductory session with Rachel and we were very pleased on Saturday. Tommi is also very happy with Rachel.  They built a rapport and I believe it will work.

We are very happy with Darius' tutoring of John and would like the tutoring to continue.

Ayon has been a wonderful tutor for Connor and he now feels that he is coping very well with his journey into HSC. He has learnt a lot with his tutor and is now studying hard with a lot more understanding. I would like to thank you.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peter's Collegiate Girls' School.
