Listen to what the issue is and explain. I personally could do maths equations but if i didn’t know WHY something was in the formula it wouldn’t click and i’d be frustrated. That is until a wonderful teacher pointed this out and would send me explanations on why something is used. I think it’s important to listen to what the issue or…

What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student is understanding the pace the student requires and not focusing on how much a student can complete in a set time. Another one is being available for the student when possible as students may not think of questions or ideas when they are with me. My strengths as a tutor is…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to show them efficient and effective ways of taking notes and studying, giving students detailed feedback and enabling students to reflect and learn from their own work by marking practice assessments and working together. Be patient, be attentive to their learning styles, involve them in the process of learning, focus on their strengths and not just the areas that they’re struggling with and make sure I fully understand the tasks that they are required to do so I can best support them to complete these. The most important things a tutor can do for a student depends on the student. For some high-achieving students that are already confident this may mean better grades that allow them to follow a career path they've dreamed of, and for others the confidence a tutor can give them is more useful than any material they have learnt. To inspire and…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is build up their confidence and stop them from getting discouraged. I often find that if a student is having difficulties, they stop wanting to succeed in that subject. If you convince them that with a little bit of extra work they'll be doing really well, they often gain confidence…

Also finding ways for the student to start to organically "enjoy" (as best they can) the given subject. And of course ensure that the student has the mental tools and knowledge to pass an exam or test in the given subject…

Tutors can help students build the confidence and skills to be stronger independent and collaborative learners. Inspiration and encouragement are key. In today's world, it is very easy to get cooped up in the competition to get the highest grades, and a lot of students lose their way in that race and end up not reaping the benefits of knowledge. Many students study for grades and certificates and their knowledge is unable to transition into practical…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. First, it is essential that a tutor provides support tailored to that student's needs, learning process, and interests. Second, a tutor must approach sessions with patience and understanding, while avoiding negativity and behavior that may discourage their student. Overall, I think creating an environment where a student feels seen and heard by…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build not only a survey-able understanding of the topic, but hopefully a genuine interest and passion. This might not be realistic 100% of the time, but creating actual curiosity and interest beyond just completing work out of necessity can not only be highly rewarding for the student but will…

It was incredibly easy to get started with EzyMath Tutoring. A couple of clicks, a phone call and we were in business! My son's tutor is great - he is showing my son lots of alternative strategies and is highlighting areas for practice before their next session. I know measurable results will take time but we are happy with the progress thus far. And, more importantly, my son is feeling more confident and engaged in math class.

Inside Essendon NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aiden worked through converting fractions to decimals and solving percentage problems, focusing on clear step-by-step calculations.

In Year 11, Ethan tackled linear motion and gravitational motion in Physics, including rearranging formulae to solve for unknowns.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Lara concentrated on Special Relativity concepts in Physics and practiced applying electromagnetic induction principles to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics and Maths, one student repeatedly relied on formula sheets for even basic questions and struggled to connect formulas with real-world meanings. "He still just sees a formula as the thing you use to plug values in," a tutor noted after an interest rate problem, leading to confusion when unfamiliar wording appeared.

In Year 10, missing or jumbled working steps caused errors—skipping writing out calculations led to lost numbers during matrix problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's tendency to sprawl working across the page resulted in confusion mid-way through multi-step perimeter tasks; details were missed or units mixed up.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon North tutoring session saw a high school student, Alex, who previously struggled to identify which formulas to use in finance and matrix problems, now tackling complex questions independently and rarely making calculation errors.

Another win came when Matthew, also in high school, showed real initiative by completing extra work on amortisation tables—something he'd found confusing before—and could explain the difference between nominal and effective interest rates without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ella in Year 6 moved from hesitating over worded inequality problems to confidently solving them after working through a hands-on example with pencils and pens.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon North Primary School.
