In my opinion, I think that it is important to understand every student is different and has their way of learning. It is important for a tutor to identify and tailor a plan for each student so that they are learning efficiently. For example, as I am a visual and auditory learner, I learn most efficiently by watching lectures and videos and less…

The most important thing is trust that both tutor and student should have on each other. An ease of asking questions and making mistakes is another very important thing. Its okay to make mistakes but if your student is afraid of you , they would never ask questions and will be afraid to make mistakes so the tutor will never be able to…

what a tutor can do is more than teaching. Tutors should be friends and a good-listener for evey student. Every student is different. They may have different learning difficulty and hardness to go through. listen their trouble on studying and give suggestions based on different cases instead of forcing the knowledge into their brain from the…

Always know what students need and what's their priority. This means a tutor need to show respect to students. They need to know very well about the students and are wise and knowledgable enough to give good advice and make sure students love listening to the advice. I love to solve questions. If I could make complicated things into easy ones, I'd…

I think listening to them to make sure their needs are known and understood by all parties involved. This helps create a supportive atmosphere that can hopefully allow the student to reach their potential. Making it a fun and rewarding experience for both parties is also important, as this can show a student how good the experience can be,…

According to me, the most important thing as a tutor is to try and try until the student understands, although it takes a lot of patience and time. It is also important to explore the student's best way of learning, which may include audio, visual, or kinesthetic, and make efforts to teach them accordingly. As a tutor, I first make my students…

Recognising what the student requires and teaching it accordingly is one of the critical teaching factors. After teaching a specific section, it is essential to question the student on the respective topics to understand whether the student understood the basic concept of the section I believe every student has a different capacity. As a student,…

From my experience, one of the most important thing I can do is finding out the weakness of students and helping them overcome that weakness instead of letting them away from it. Tutors should be honest, too when there is the question that we do not know. Last but not least, tutors should help students build confidence and give support as much as…

To reassure them that having a tutor and needing a bit of extra help is nothing to be ashamed of. Moreover than learning the tasks, helping them feel they're capable of more than they think they are. I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a safe, encouraging space where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. It’s not just about helping them understand the content, it’s also about building their self-belief and showing them that they "can" succeed. A good tutor should also adapt their…

A tutor can listen, understand and be patient with the student. Knowing the pain point and difficulties, design a personalized plan and method that student can understand. As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. The passion with which the tutor teaches the student matters a lot and this also influences the students influence on the subject. A tutor can provide little tips and tricks to answering questions, especially in Math. Always be within reach, in terms of communication platforms, so that the student can clarify any doubts at any point in time. A tutor should also be flexible to the timings of the students yet not compromising on other students schedule. I am patient, clear…

It is very important as a tutor to understand your student. Be his silent friend and connect with him. Read his mental abilities, his interest, observe his qualities and disabilities, his way of learning things. And then try to impart the teaching depending on all these factors. Each student is different and so is the method of teaching. Teaching…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to get a proper understanding of the level of mathematical 'maturity' of a specific student, rather than just assuming a certain background knowledge. Once this is established, it's possible to get the core of what exactly a student is struggling with (usually a particular fundamental concept) and…

At any point, I should be patient and follow their speed. If I tutor one person at a time, the biggest advantage would be being able to figure out in detail what they are struggling with. So, I can make small but definite improvements by giving them the different levels of questions, from the lowest they can do to the level they need to achieve.…

I believe firstly, students should not be pressured to do any task instead a tutor should make the task joyful and interesting for the student in such a way that they enjoy they are doing in every aspect. Communication is very important, as it is vital that the student is able to convey any questions, misunderstandings or opinions to the tutor for a tailored tutoring experience to occur. It is also at the same time that the tutor needs to be precise and straightforward with their explanation on different concepts. I think I generally build a…

We feel very fortunate to have been placed an excellent tutor who is not only very knowledgeable with maths but obviously passionate about his student's learning. He is also very willing to assist remotely with adhoc queries. All of this combined has definately improved our son's ability and confidence with maths as well as sparked his greater interest and enthusiasm.

Inside EvandaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Pranavi worked on converting between units of time (hours to days) and measurement (mm, cm, m), as well as practising long division with remainders.

In Year 8, Areeba tackled multiplying decimals by whole numbers and multiplying two-digit numbers using both the grid method and standard algorithms.

Meanwhile, Milly in Year 9 focused on converting fractions to decimals and percentages, along with reinforcing division skills and applying the order of operations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student in mathematics frequently got lost when translating word problems into algebraic equations, even after verbally grasping the relationship; as one tutor observed, "he understood it aloud but struggled to put the expression on paper." This hesitation to write down full working often led to misreading or skipping key question details.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner repeatedly needed reminders to line up decimals and place values correctly during arithmetic, causing persistent errors in addition and multiplication—especially with larger numbers. Both scenarios left students feeling frustrated when answers didn't match their understanding, requiring extra time for correction and prompting.

Recent Achievements

One Evandale tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to get stuck on fraction homework now working through tricky questions with much less prompting, even tackling bonus problems almost independently.

In a high school science session, another student took the lead by choosing to focus on an upcoming energy assignment and showed he could explain concepts without needing as much guidance as before.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 learner who struggled to write out their maths process is now confidently recording each step when solving mixed-to-improper fraction conversions, making far fewer errors and finishing all set tasks during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Peters Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Joseph's School.
