Connect with them and tailor sessions such that they specifically target their needs. My strengths as a tutor lie not only in my knowledge of the subject matter, but in my empathy and student-based approach. As someone who has needed tuition before I feel confident that I understand what students are looking…

Motivate them and explain things simply and patiently. I like to help my students not only develop as a student at school but also as a person. They need to believe in themselves and to do that, I need to believe in them. I am patient and explain things in a very simple and understandable way. I can understand what the students are dealing with at…

I believe that building a student's confidence is crucial. A tutor should provide personalized instruction that meets their specific needs and encourage them to take risks and make mistakes as part of the learning process. To build a student's confidence, a tutor should create a supportive and motivating learning environment. They should…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is spark curiosity in the student’s mind. Rather than just helping them get through their textbooks, a tutor should encourage them to explore the subject more deeply, to ask questions, make connections, and think beyond what’s required. When a student becomes genuinely interested in a topic,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them that mistakes are part of learning. It is very easy to become disheartened if something is difficult, but mistakes help us to grow and allow us to see how far we have come once we achieve our work. My strength as a tutor is positive reinforcement as it allows the student to…

A teacher's role is to not only make their students understand the concepts and all the basics but also build their confidence for life. This is what I can do. I look not from the perspective of a teacher but a student, giving them realistic tasks and assignments and gradually help them improve. I can make you fall in love with maths. Being a…

I have a very interactive way of teaching and kids enjoy when you teach while interacting and playing with them. I don’t teach as a typical traditional teacher which gets very boring at times. I have a lot of patience while teaching kids so it’s easier to communicate with them. It’s my passion to teach kids and they have more energy to…

The performance of a tutor is quantifiable. Specifically, a student's understanding, passion, and results can be improved with the right tutor. Furthermore, I believe intrinsic motivation is of paramount importance in relation to 'true' success. Instilling this in someone younger than you would be something truly special. A tutor may also be…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to build their confidence. A tutor can do the things a lecturer cannot cover in school lectures, i.e. "concreting" an underlying concept of the subject that makes up most of the part of the assignments and the knowledge which is the prerequisite for the coming topics in the subject. A trivial example would be clarifying trigonometry before learning solutions of triangles,…

To be understanding of the needs of a student is important as a tutor. The tutor should master the areas that they wish to teach their student beforehand. The tutor should monitor the performance of the student weekly and ensure that what he/she teaches does not clash with the way the student is taught at their school. Tutoring should go along the…

As a tutor, the most important thing I can do is to help the student figure out where their confusion is, is it just the question being asked or the logic of how to interpret this question. They may confuse about the original theory they've learned because they can't link it to real life to apply or they didn't see it clearly in the first place,…

It's crucial to adapt teaching methods to the individual learning style of each student, ensuring they not only understand the material but also how to apply it effectively. Additionally, a tutor should make the student to adquire interest in the subject, helping students develop not just academic skills but also a lasting curiosity and enthusiasm…

Inside EveleighTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Olivia practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages and also worked on finding percentages of quantities in everyday contexts.

Year 8 student Mason focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as solving quadratic equations using the completing the square method.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Aisha tackled trigonometric identities and began introductory differentiation, reinforcing both with targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student showed a tendency to "jump to what he thinks is the answer—often a guess if he doesn't follow a logical process," especially in pattern and word problems.

In Year 7, one learner often avoided writing working out on paper, preferring mental calculation, which led to repeated basic errors ("Writing his working out on paper rather than doing it all in his head").

At senior level, hesitation with new types of questions surfaced: as noted in Year 11, "she hesitates to try and asks me how to do it rather than try it herself first." This can leave students feeling uncertain when independent problem-solving is required.

Recent Achievements

One Eveleigh tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after struggling to complete differentiation problems independently, managed to work through tricky questions on her own and even explained new methods back to the tutor.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student—who used to rush through area and perimeter questions without checking—has started pausing to think through each step before answering, leading to more accurate solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student has begun asking for help when stuck rather than guessing quietly, showing much more openness during problem-solving.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newtown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Central Sydney Intensive English High School.
