I believe a maths tutor should be able to explain things clearly and stop the flow of teaching when necessary if a student needs to revise a difficult concept, as I believe it is better to know the concepts now rather than leave those areas to remain unclarified and which can and does affect students come a test or exam day. I believe that a tutor…

Teachers seek to inspire students in all aspects of their lives, and for many teachers, their greatest goal is to be a role model. A role model is someone who inspires and encourages students to strive for greatness, and teaches them through experience and commitment how to realize their full potential to become the best they can be. Teachers can…

Although it is of course important for a maths tutor to academically support each and every student, I think it is equally if not more important for a tutor to provide emotional support. A tutor must make sure they are empathetic and understanding towards any struggles their students are going through, and be willing to provide additional…

The most important things a maths tutor can do for a student is to inspire them and to push them. A student must feel safe to enable communication between us, but not too comfortable to the point that they do not try their best. I think the most important thing out of this is to find find a balance so the tutor can cater for the student. I am very…

In my perspective, the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student are as follows: 1.Create a positive and supportive learning environment. 2.The tutor should collaborate with the student to set clear and achievable learning objectives. 3. When teaching complex subjects, tutors should break down information into smaller, more…

I believe one of the most important things a maths tutor can do is help students build their confidence. Many students already know more than they think—they just need someone to guide them patiently and help them believe in their abilities. A tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions and learn from…

Actively listening to the student to understand where their problems and issues lie, or even to know how easily they are understanding a concept so that the tutor can move on appropriately to the next level to further develop the student's understanding. From there, it goes without saying, needing to actually have that knowledge to guide them with…

Students may seek tuition for one of two main reasons: - They feel they are underperforming, and so want their tutors to help them relearn the basics to bring their performance up to their desired baseline - They want to excel in the subject beyond simply passable marks, and so want to prepare for the hardest possible questions and secure the…

I think the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to help guide them in a non-intrusive and non-judgmental way. Inside EynesburyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ray reviewed all multiplication tables for fluency and tackled BODMAS with multi-step numerical expressions, then explored statistics by learning mean, median, and mode in preparation for an upcoming test.

Year 10 Aiden focused on applying the Pythagorean theorem and solving perimeter problems using real-world examples, followed by further practice with surface area calculations and problem-solving strategies.

For Year 11 Math, Jack worked through quadratic equations—including worded problems—and deepened his understanding of trigonometry concepts, revising thoroughly ahead of a major assessment.

Recent Challenges

In a recent Year 11 Maths session, exam panic became clear—despite strong understanding, nerves led to missed steps under time pressure ("he panics in exams, maybe try some relaxing techniques as he is very confident with his materials").

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student avoided tackling challenging worded BODMAS problems, admitting low interest meant he "can feel lost and unsure" when faced with unfamiliar formats.

For one upper-primary learner, subtraction tasks revealed that messy handwriting made working difficult to follow and errors harder to spot.

Each scenario left confidence dented or progress slowed at key moments.

Recent Achievements

One Eynesbury tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after struggling to catch up from COVID disruptions, is now working through revision tasks much faster and even volunteers to try harder questions—something he hesitated with before.

In Year 11, a student who previously found simultaneous equations confusing has started solving them independently during sessions, only checking answers at the end.

A primary student made real headway with fractions; where she once guessed or skipped tricky ones, she now confidently converts denominators and checks her own work without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Manor Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eynesbury Primary School.
