The most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond simply imparting knowledge. First and foremost, it's about building a strong rapport and trust with the student, creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment. A tutor should identify and address the individual needs and challenges of each student, adapting their…

As I alluded to earlier, I think the student's enjoyment is extremely important. That's not to say that they should be having fun at the expense of gaining knowledge, much the contrary; I think the best way for a student to gain knowledge that will last beyond the next test or exam is to have it conveyed in such a way that they take a genuine…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is help them gain the tools necessary to be able to succeed on their own. As a tutor, helping students not only believe in themselves, but also helping them gain the strategies and tools to overcome difficult academic and non-academic problems is an important thing. Tutors need to not just…

A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. Also, a tutor should know how to boost up the morale of a student when he/she is feeling low. If student is facing some…

I would say, be supportive and a good listener are the most important things a tutor should offer to students. Based on my previous experience, students sometimes lack motivations to finish their school homework either they are too tired from school, or they just don't understand the school materials well. As a tutor, this could be an opportunity…

A tutor should take their time with a student and make sure the student understands before moving on. I believe the purpose of tutoring should be to provide learning strategies that are specific to the individual in contrast with teaching in a classroom (at the pace of the class). A tutor should provide multiple strategies for learning. For…

Inside Fairview ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex worked through arranging fractions on a number line and explored the relationship between fractions and decimals.

In Year 10, Emma practised applying the area of a triangle formula to different problems and built confidence with function notation, also touching on physics formulas for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Noah revised exponential functions and logarithms, focusing on growth and decay models using real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, a student's messy working made solutions difficult to follow—"he needs to be a little cautious of the way he sets out his working," one tutor noted.

In Year 12 Biology, another student hesitated to ask clarifying questions during lessons on homeostasis, limiting deeper understanding and feedback use.

Meanwhile, in Year 7, poor time management led to incomplete assignments and stress balancing schoolwork with other activities.

A lack of confidence surfaced across several year levels: students second-guessed themselves or doubted correct steps in algebra and geometry problems, leading to hesitation rather than steady progress.

Recent Achievements

One Fairview Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who used to be hesitant about physics—she's now managing her study time much better and recently celebrated a strong test result that gave her an extra boost.

In Year 10, another student who was once reluctant to speak up has started asking more questions during sessions and is now checking her answers on her own, even tackling extra homework without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously struggled with reading aloud managed to finish an entire chapter from "The Faraway Tree" by herself this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks for the follow up. We could not be happier with Avi.  Alex really likes and respects her. She is already helping to build his confidence and having him see that he actually doing very well. We would like to continue with her for sure.

Thanks for the email - Callum enjoyed his session with Micah last Sunday and is looking forward to the next one, which is a good thing!!

Alice had been getting poor marks in maths, despite doing well in other subjects.  Neb and Amy effectively identified issues with the way she approached maths problems ie not stepping through problems sufficiently, and helped her overcome these.  Alice's marks and attitude to maths have improved greatly as a result.  As she has improved, she has become more confident and willing to do the homework and study to do even better.  It has been a positive experience all round and I would not hesitate to recommend Ezy Maths Tutoring.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Surrey Downs Primary School.
