Help students enjoy studying by being engaging, as studying is often found to be tedious by many, yet is so crucial for a bright and successful future. Without being engaging and empathetic, the student will quit, finding tutoring to be an additional chore on top of school rather than something enjoyable. I am able to break down complicated…

Provide a different perspective and a different approach to a topic. Listen to the student patiently. Different students have a different understanding capacity. To give them confidence and make them feel good about themselves. There is nothing more counter-productive than making a student feel disheartened and bad about themselves, since self-doubt yields anxiety and often poor performance in exams. Establishing a basis of trust is vital for the success of the student, so that they feel in a safe space to…

Inside Fairy MeadowTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ava worked on all types of fractions, including improper and mixed numbers, and practised multiplying and dividing them using step-by-step examples.

In Year 8, Kyra reviewed Pythagoras' theorem to find missing sides and angles in composite shapes, building confidence through targeted practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Chloe focused on linear relationships by plotting points to sketch lines and finding equations from given graphs.

Recent Challenges

Messy or incomplete working appeared repeatedly in Years 7–10 mathematics.

For example, one student's algebra work lacked clear layout, which led to confusion with negative signs and missed steps ("she should write down important equations such as the gradient equation before attempting to solve to avoid mistakes").

In Year 9, disorganised notes meant formulas were forgotten or mixed up with different shapes.

A Year 11 student struggled to approach worded problems independently—pausing until prompted—which left her feeling frustrated and less confident during tests.

At primary level, a student avoided writing out full solutions for long division, causing uncertainty when checking answers later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Fairy Meadow noticed a big shift for one Year 10 student who had always waited for hints—last session, she tackled composite shape problems and found missing angles on her own after some initial guidance.

Another high schooler who used to make frequent errors when rearranging equations managed to correct mistakes herself mid-task and even asked for slightly harder questions toward the end.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who would get stuck on mixed numerals now confidently converts between improper fractions and mixed numbers without needing reminders—she finished her latest worksheet independently.

David is a very experienced tutor with skills to adapt to suit the individual's learning ability; thus delivering an improved educational experience to achieve results.

An amazing teacher who will have a lasting & positive impact on your child - he did for me. Highly recommend.

Alex and Peter seem like a compatible match and Alex says that he has found the sessions helpful so far. We hope to see some solid gains for Alex in the coming term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corrimal District Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School.
