I believe that a tutor should be able to help students learn, improve and grow in their areas of uncertainty. Not only should a tutor be consolidating or getting a student to understand a new topic, but also have the ability to help them seek out the joy in learning. I am patient, encouraging and knowledgeable in a range of areas and topics. with…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only be able to teach them the material, but to also be able to mentor them. By mentoring, I mean having a close, trusting relationship with your student in order to help them improve their skills on a daily basis. The mentoring relationship allows learning to go beyond…

I think the most important thing you can do as a teacher is to equip your students with the means to learn. There are skills to learn anything. As a teacher, you need to teach your students knowledge as well as show them how to learn. Once students have mastered the method of learning and at the same time gained the confidence to learn, they can…

Rather than provide a mass amount of information, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is instil a sense of confidence and interest in the subject. Personally the experiences that I have taken with me from systems of education have been how applicable the framework of learning is to other facets of the reasoning process.…

Providing individualized attention and support is the cornerstone of effective tutoring. Each student is unique, with their own distinct learning style, strengths, and weaknesses. A one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring is unlikely to be successful, as it fails to cater to the individual needs of each learner. Recognizing this, exceptional tutors…

Inside FlemingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alice worked on calculating mean, median, mode, and range in statistics as well as identifying angles with symmetry using visual examples.

In Year 9, Bita practised solving linear equations and worked through a worksheet on mean, median and mode provided by her teacher.

For Year 10, Laura focused on revising algebra and graphing techniques from the Year 11 curriculum to strengthen her foundation for upcoming studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for a statistics test hesitated to share which probability topics felt hardest, making it difficult to target weak spots; her notebook was also missing dates, so tracking progress became confusing.

In Year 9 algebra, as one tutor put it, "he skipped showing steps in simplification, which hid sign errors"—extra time was then spent hunting mistakes instead of building confidence.

A Year 7 student left homework incomplete before lessons and struggled with organizing exercise books and teacher feedback requests.

During Year 12 revision, reluctance to attempt unfamiliar graph questions led to gaps ahead of the upcoming test.

Recent Achievements

One Flemington tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to freeze up on tough algebra questions—now, after working through some challenging Further Maths problems, he confidently explained his reasoning and tackled even the trickiest ones without hesitation.

In another session, a Year 9 student who'd struggled to distinguish between explanatory and response variables was able to clearly verbalise his thought process and correctly identify each one during practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once guessed at answers now talks through her multiplication steps out loud and checks her work before moving on.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Lille has taken well to tutoring so far and Jackie is a great match for Lille so we are happy.

So far all is good. Lili and Jasmine get along lovely and she is teaching Jasmine some math tricks which is great. Jasmine is more keen to practice her maths also.

Aliesha and Winnie are working very well together. I have already seen the results. Aliesha's first assessment task in Year 10 general maths, she scored 37% but in her latest assessment task she achieved 92%, which is an amazing result. Aliesha has regained her confidence which is reflected in her school, work and at home. She is so much happier. Thank you for all your helpful advice during my initial enquiries and a big thank you to Winnie.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Community High School.
