I think the most important thing that an english tutor can do for the student is to make them feel confident within their learning space, to boost their self esteem and help them come to the understanding that they can do anything that they put the effort into. By helping them obtain this confidence, tutoring becomes the act of tackling a certain…

Tutor, for me, is not only a teaching career where you come in, provide the lesson and knowledge. Tutoring is a great process where tutor and students can interact and learn from each other. Furthermore, I believe that tutoring also means supporting students' learning. Supporting, in this case, is not only about aiding students with their learning…

I believe that it is paramount for an english tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each…

I believe it is the confidence that tutors can develop in their students, so that the stress and nervousness is lessened when it comes to taking the end-of-year exams, or even just a simple test. A tutor should be understanding and empathetic when students struggle with their work, not only to ensure they do not grow too frustrated or apathetic towards their studies, but also to identify the students' weaknesses in their approach to a question. This helps maintain enthusiasm instead of discouragement and allows the tutor to remedy the gaps…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only be able to teach them the material, but to also be able to mentor them. Inside FootscrayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia focused on solving problems involving the volume of cylinders and explored area and circumference of circles, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

In Year 8, Liam practiced linear relationships by plotting equations on coordinate grids and worked through questions on finding equations of lines.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ava reviewed angle types—such as complementary and supplementary angles—and estimated degrees using protractors for hands-on learning.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 trigonometry, a student hesitated to attempt challenging problems, focusing mainly on familiar examples—this limited exposure to multi-step scenarios.

For a Year 3 multiplication task, over-reliance on counting rather than recalling tables slowed progress and led to errors ("Need to learn by heart the multiplication table").

In Year 10 data evaluation, incomplete practice with interpreting graphs meant patterns were sometimes missed.

During Year 8 decimal work, one tutor noted: "Need to be more careful while counting the number to put the decimal point and index number." These process gaps often left some questions unanswered or concepts only partly grasped in-session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Footscray noticed a big shift with one high school student who, after struggling to estimate angles without tools, now confidently judges them by eye and checks his work independently.

Another Year 9 student who used to hesitate when stuck on problems has started raising questions mid-session and fixing mistakes right away, instead of waiting for hints.

Meanwhile, a younger student finally cleared up confusion about range and median—after weeks of guessing, he now explains the difference out loud before solving each problem.

Last week, one finished all his homework in just 20 minutes and asked for extra exercises.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Aliesha and Winnie are working very well together. I have already seen the results. Aliesha's first assessment task in Year 10 general maths, she scored 37% but in her latest assessment task she achieved 92%, which is an amazing result. Aliesha has regained her confidence which is reflected in her school, work and at home. She is so much happier. Thank you for all your helpful advice during my initial enquiries and a big thank you to Winnie.

We are happy at this stage and Leyla is saying that she likes the way Zoe is teaching her. We are happy with Zoe as she is a very nice lady and very good teacher.

We are delighted with Dexter. She and Carly get along very well and she makes the tutoring process seamless and pleasant. Carly is responding very well to Dexter and they've already and good progress.
