I believe patience is important as everyone learns and works at a different pace so being able to cope with that is important. Moreover, it is crucial that a tutor is open-minded and non-judgemental as the concept of learning is different for everyone. Further, a tutor should be organized and behave professionally to set out the aura of a good…

As a tutor, being an educator that always shows up for their students/s is most important as they may need tutoring sessions to clarify or solidify further knowledge. Being someone they're comfortable with as well, aids in learning as students can feel good within themselves to question the teacher but feel it is a safe space to work in a coherent…

As a tutor, i believe that the attitude is very important as it can affect the student's emotions when studying the subject. With a positive attitude, they will be more happy when studying the subject therefore they will put more effort to work hard on it. Furthermore, I believe that a tutor should be good at explaining and observant because each…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand their individual learning method and cater their lessons to suit. There must be a strong communication bond between both parties, otherwise the student will not enjoy the full benefits of the tutorial lesson. A tutor apart from offering services of tutorship has a huge impact a student's life in the following ways: 1. Encourage students to apply his/her independent mind and motivate them to think out of the box. 2. Go out of the way in exploring different options to teach the same course/study material. 3. Be available for your students and…

A tutor is someone who can help to support and strengthen students' self-efficacy one-on-one. This is extremely important as classroom teachers have to manage multiple students in a classroom and cannot provide the same undivided attention as a tutor can. Tutors instil confidence in their students, assist them in unpacking and understanding areas…

I believe that a tutor's most important job is to build a student's confidence. With more advanced students, confidence allows them to stretch themselves even further. I believe I have developed a…

Inside FootscrayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia focused on solving problems involving the volume of cylinders and explored area and circumference of circles, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

In Year 8, Liam practiced linear relationships by plotting equations on coordinate grids and worked through questions on finding equations of lines.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ava reviewed angle types—such as complementary and supplementary angles—and estimated degrees using protractors for hands-on learning.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 trigonometry, a student hesitated to attempt challenging problems, focusing mainly on familiar examples—this limited exposure to multi-step scenarios.

For a Year 3 multiplication task, over-reliance on counting rather than recalling tables slowed progress and led to errors ("Need to learn by heart the multiplication table").

In Year 10 data evaluation, incomplete practice with interpreting graphs meant patterns were sometimes missed.

During Year 8 decimal work, one tutor noted: "Need to be more careful while counting the number to put the decimal point and index number." These process gaps often left some questions unanswered or concepts only partly grasped in-session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Footscray noticed a big shift with one high school student who, after struggling to estimate angles without tools, now confidently judges them by eye and checks his work independently.

Another Year 9 student who used to hesitate when stuck on problems has started raising questions mid-session and fixing mistakes right away, instead of waiting for hints.

Meanwhile, a younger student finally cleared up confusion about range and median—after weeks of guessing, he now explains the difference out loud before solving each problem.

Last week, one finished all his homework in just 20 minutes and asked for extra exercises.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tahlia and Jonah are getting along very well so far and Tahlia appears to be taking on board the information that Jonah is giving her. Tahlia is enjoying her tutoring sessions and it doesn't feel like an hour to her.

Dorcas is a very patient tutor, she has lots of experience and is good with children. She is willing to go the extra mile and my son has been improving under her guidance.

I would like to say how impressed we were with El-Abed. You provide a really useful support service.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray High School - Barkly Campus.
