I have found that reliability is something students and parents alike, really appreciate in a tutor. It is important for a tutor to be someone that both student and parent can depend on, as we are there to provide an important service to both. In regards to the student, we are there to help them learn, and regarding parents, a tutors presence is…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and make sure to keep the student motivated while being honest with him/her. A tutor should also be able to adapt to a student's personality and should have an array of teaching method for the different learning styles. Thanks to the way I have been taught by my parents as well…

Be patient with them. All students are different but also everyone has the capacity to learn. It is up to the tutor to understand their students (how they think, their learning styles etc) and tailor their approach to meet their needs. Prioritizing the student's understanding as well I know how to work with different types of people from different…

I feel the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to ask questions and generate interest in the topic. As a tutor it is also a responsibility to inspire creativity. I have sufficient knowledge about the subjects i wish to teach. Along with that, I possess the keen methodology to help students conceptualise…

In my experience, there are two really important things a tutor can provide for a student. A tutor's primary responsibility to their student is to strengthen their knowledge of a subject, diving deeper into topics they may have already studied or simply reinforcing concepts they are struggling with. While this is the predominant purpose of a…

A tutor should know the students' questions and worries and find ways to deal with rather than teaching them general knowledge. In this way, students can improve their grades and know how to perform. Another important thing is that students need to be nurtured with a good habit in learning, which is essential for their future studies. I am majored…

Help the student build confidence. I find many students have the knowledge to solve problems but lack the confidence in themselves. Making the subject more exciting for the student is the best thing I believe a tutor can do for a student because with this strategy students would always be eager to learn new things and put more efforts towards it. One of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give the student motivation to learn and ultimately excel academically. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them overcome a block/limitation they are facing. This could be one specific topic or subject which is a fundamental for their growth. I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. Without this we can't understand where the gaps are in the students knowledge OR whether they really do understand, but just in a different way. Inside Fortitude ValleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Adam worked on solving algebraic expressions with fractions and reviewed angle properties of parallel lines, as well as calculating the volume and surface area of cylinders and prisms.

In Year 10, Laila focused on understanding thermal conductivity and heat transfer types for a physics assignment, along with practicing natural logarithm graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Priscilla concentrated on designing a scale model of her school oval for maths, applying measurement concepts like scales, plans, and data collection to her project.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student left her school textbook at home and struggled to visualize angles in complex polygons, which slowed her problem-solving during geometry tasks.

In Year 11 Physics, unclear assignment instructions led to confusion—"the requirements for the physics assignment were too vague to understand," a tutor noted—which resulted in missed criteria and incomplete research before writing.

A Year 6 learner repeatedly forgot both homework and key materials, such as notebooks and flashcards, making it hard to review prior content or track progress.

Each of these scenarios meant valuable lesson time was spent retracing steps instead of advancing skills or building confidence.

Recent Achievements

A Fortitude Valley tutoring session saw one Year 11 student finally break through on worded bearing questions—last time, she struggled to set them up, but this week she worked through several independently and even tackled a tricky exam-style problem.

Another high schooler had previously rushed her assignments, but now she's pausing to ask clarifying questions aloud before starting and carefully checking each step; this shift has meant fewer errors in her homework.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to count slowly is now confidently using the "stairs method" for addition, finishing sums much more quickly than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brisbane Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Angelorum College.
