Business Studies Tutor Gwandalan, NSW
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to recognise and stimulate wherever possible a personal interset in the subject being taught. Ideally this will literally involve relating the subject to the student's own intellectual, cultural or recreational interests, but it may simply involve alinging success in the subject to broader…

Inside FreemansTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ben worked through simplifying algebraic expressions using index laws and expanded brackets via the distributive law, sometimes verbalising his process to check understanding.

Year 10 student Olivia focused on rational versus irrational numbers and practiced rounding answers to significant figures, also applying these skills to rate calculations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ethan revised financial mathematics by tackling word problems on income and taxation, then applied simple interest formulas in context.

Recent Challenges

Repeatedly leaving homework incomplete, especially in algebra and trigonometry, has been a persistent issue for this Year 8 student.

The tutor observed that "he needs to attempt questions alone to improve," after the student hesitated to start tasks without support.

In Year 10, there was significant confusion about when to apply formulas or which technique fits a question. This uncertainty led to lost time during worded problems and test revision.

This uncertainty became even more pronounced when she faced unorthodox or multi-step scenarios, resulting in deeper confusion.

A senior student consistently avoided writing full working for rearranging equations, instead trying mental shortcuts. This made small errors harder to spot and fix before moving on.

Recent Achievements

One Freemans tutor noticed a high school student who had previously hesitated with worded algebra problems now attempting them more confidently, especially after getting quicker at expanding expressions.

Another win came from a Year 10 student who, after struggling to recall trigonometric ratios, began remembering them without prompts and could spot patterns in rearranging equations independently.

On the primary side, one younger learner—who used to need step-by-step guidance—successfully solved decimal multiplication questions solo for the first time and even asked for extra practice when finished.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I found Ezy Math's tutoring excellent. I would highly recommend it. They managed to find a tutor whose teaching style was perfect for my daughter. They related to each other and my daughter's ability in maths increased exponentially. I was very happy with them.

As a tutor, I found Ezy Math tutoring to be absolutely excellent. It was so convenient to be matched with students in my local area. The training modules were both interesting and useful, and it really made me think about what I could do to provide the best possible tutoring service.

I believe my biggest accomplishment has been to raise the grades of my students from the average levels to the above-average, since it reflects the fact that all students have the potential for great talent with hard work and practice. I came to work with Ezy Math Tutoring to pass on the positive experience that comes from having a good tutor in a challenging subject. From my experience, I re-learned how to teach others ideas, concepts and facts through various established and self-made techniques, which I can apply to my own studies with my fellows and peers. I also got into the discipline of keeping reports, records and other documentation, an important skill for any career. Having uni students as tutors allows for a more recent and up-to-date understanding of school-level subjects, as well as a greater understanding of the challenges involved and strategies to beat them. I would recommend Ezy Math Tutoring to uni students who want to keep their maths skills sharp, enhance some valuable skills, and earn some pocket money as well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Toukley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lake Munmorah Public School.
