The most important thing of a tutor in my opinion is to foster genuine passion for learning for the students. I believe that the academic success of any student should be self-paced, and the tutor could only help them if they face a too-challenging problem or cannot come up with a plan to achieve their success. Passion to help students, I…

Be personable and friendly. A tutor should encourage, not put down or criticise. Someone a student can trust and enjoy being taught by. I want to be dependable and personable. I believe I'm great at relating to students at a personal level and teaching in a way that doesn't overwhelm them. I understand what it feels like to have an information…

A tutor can increase a student's confidence in their abilities through consolidation of concepts. This is important as to do well in any subject, a student needs to believe in themselves and their capabilities. I am good at going slowly, step by step, through difficult concepts to break them down into understandable…

I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to learn in a personalised manner, and make learning enjoyable whilst ensuring they still grasp the material. I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, provide personalized support, and create a positive learning environment. Every student learns differently, so it’s crucial to adapt teaching methods to suit their needs. A tutor should also encourage questions and make sure the student feels comfortable…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make learning simple by building from a very strong foundation. The reason many students struggle with complex concepts is because their foundation is either weak or vague. My approach has always been to start with the basics, explain them in simple terms, and then gradually build…

To teach them a concept and allow them to add their own thoughts and perception to the given teaching. This in turn allows them to get a deeper understanding of the concept rather than just learning what is taught I am patient and can wait for the student to realize the logic of the course. I think first and foremost is adaptability. 2. Discipline comes after once you get adapted. 3. Communication with easing out the complex concepts. 4. Listening their problems and catering on them. 5. A teacher has to be patient while working with a student 6. At last but not least, humility is one of the most important thing when it comes…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to build confidence and independence. It is to not only to help them get the right answers, it is to make them understand the ‘why’ so they can think critically and solve problems independently. A good tutor also creates a safe space for their student to ask question without…

The most important thing a tutor can do is understand the strengths and the weaknesses of the student and then align their method of teaching, thereby rendering a teaching which the student be able to grasp and apply. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them skills they can use in life. It's not just about teaching them how to do a single problem, it's how to solve problems down the track. In my opinion, one of the most important things a great tutor can do for a student is to increase their passion for the subject. Having compassion. Being proficient in a subject does not guarantee that the student will understand as deeply as the tutor. Sometimes, techniques won't work, or the student may have problems outside of academics. Being compassionate will outweigh any other things that a tutor can do at the end of the day. The most important thing for a tutor is to never underestimate a student, and to be there for them as a support and to show them that they can. Inside GardenvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Nikki focused on solving real-world division problems like calculating cost per kilogram and interpreting results in full sentences, as well as practising key elements of showing working and reasoning.

Year 8 student Celia worked through index laws using examples to solidify understanding, and revised algebraic equations ahead of her test.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Bonnie tackled trigonometry topics including sin/cos/tan ratios and the Pythagoras theorem, with extra attention on applying formulas to a variety of question types.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's working was repeatedly erased instead of crossed out during scientific notation tasks—"This will waste a lot of time especially during tests," as noted by the tutor.

In Year 11, missing key details in text-heavy exam questions led to confusion when indirect information was required, not just direct calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student struggled to keep their answers organized in multi-step fraction problems; they tended to panic when timed and lost track of steps.

For a senior English essay, lack of planning made it hard for ideas to flow smoothly between paragraphs, leaving arguments disconnected.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Gardenvale noticed a big change with Celia, a high school student who used to hesitate when faced with new algebraic laws—now she's not only picking them up quickly but also applying them independently during sessions.

In another case, Bonnie, also in high school, showed real initiative by pinpointing which maths topics she struggled with before her exam and then confidently using her CAS calculator to tackle those questions on her own.

Meanwhile, a younger student recently surprised her tutor by clearly writing down every division question she found confusing instead of skipping them, making it easier to review and master those tricky spots together.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Elsternwick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Leibler Yavneh College.
