English Tutor Albury, NSW
I consider the best tutors to have a genuine passion for learning, which shines through when they are teaching others. I believe that this allows the tutor to engage with the student through honestly wanting to help and get the best out of them. It creates a positive and exciting environment when the student and tutor can both celebrate the wins…

English Tutor Albury, NSW
I think regardless of outcomes and results, the biggest thing an english tutor can do for a student is improve confidence in the given subject/s. The student should feel progress and improvement, and if the tutor cannot deliver these things then they are not doing their job effectively. I believe the tutor needs to communicate with the student…

English Tutor Thurgoona, NSW
Most importantly I need to be patient with them and ensure they feel comfortable and are understanding the concepts being taught. As an english tutor I should also ensure students don't have any problems hindering their learning. I am a patient person that can work with the student. Furthermore, I am versatile in my ways of teaching to ensure…

Inside Gateway IslandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ella focused on simplifying linear and polynomial equations, as well as exponent rules, working through practice problems for each.

For Year 10, Luka revised expanding and factorising polynomials of varying degrees and completed a homework review in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Maya concentrated on financial mathematics—specifically flat rate depreciation calculations using recursion relations—and worked through regression analysis including scatterplots, trendlines, and interpreting the coefficient of determination.

Recent Challenges

During a recent Year 7 maths session, one student struggled with long division when the first step resulted in zero; he sometimes skipped the multiplication and subtraction steps before dropping down the next number, which made his working hard to follow and led to confusion in multi-digit problems.

In senior maths, a Year 11 student relied heavily on teacher-provided resources for test revision but left some topics only partially practiced—her preparation for Monday's assessment was therefore incomplete.

In Year 9 English, another student's handwriting in essay tasks became difficult to read under time pressure, especially during practice essays.

Recent Achievements

One Gateway Island tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's attitude to algebra: after initially struggling, he now asks about his mistakes and actively seeks clarification when something isn't clear, instead of guessing.

In another session, a high school student who used to freeze up on exam-style questions worked through them independently after adding new formulas to her cheat sheet—something she hadn't managed before.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student was able to tackle long division using a step-by-step method she'd found confusing at first, eventually solving problems with barely any help by the end of the lesson.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Justin has been such an asset to Connor, honestly, his confidence and understanding has improved with Justin's assistance. We are so greatful to yourselves and Justin for all the work and patience over the past couple of weeks.

Also, I would like to say that the tutor provided, Ray, was outstanding. A thorough gentleman, always professional, diligent, interested and concerned. Just a good decent young man on every front. I certainly believe that Ray deserves some acknowledgement and recognition, and that he set a standard in your organisation that would be hard to better, he is a great testament of quality that any organisation tries to deliver. We were always pleased to have him in our home and wish him all the very best in his future.

I also wanted to say Matthew has been absolutely fantastic, he has a great manner and is very patient.  Anja's maths has definitely improved. i suspect we will need a tutor again in the second half of next year hopefully Matthew is available then.  I will certainly recommend your service to others.   I also wanted to say thank you for all the fabulous resources you offer.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albury LibraryMuseum—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wodonga Middle Years College-HighWater Campus.
