Online Tutor Gawler East, SA
I believe that tutors need to help students become empowered and motivated to learn, so that the student takes responsibility for their own learning and development. Therefore, students need to acquire not only knowledge of subject material but also learning strategies, which help them in various areas of their lives. I care about people and want…

I believe a tutor should give encouragement generously. A tutor should also empower students by teaching them skills that will help them throughout their schooling and beyond. I care about my students. I try to identify their learning style so that I'm better equipped to help them. I encourage my students to work their way through problems instead…

Inside Gawler EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alice worked on subtraction using the borrowing method and began converting fractions to have the same denominator, as well as learning two-digit multiplication strategies.

In Year 8, Elysia focused on mastering long division with clear written steps and applied BODMAS rules in multi-step calculations, connecting these skills directly to her TAFE course requirements.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student James tackled calculus concepts including derivatives of exponential and trigonometric functions, then moved on to integration techniques relevant for his upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 and 5, students sometimes avoided written working in arithmetic or relied heavily on fingers, which slowed progress—one tutor noted missed homework on times tables practice, leading to repeated gaps next session.

For a senior student preparing for calculus exams, over-reliance on revision of basic questions meant higher-level problem-solving wasn't practiced as much; "sessions could be better utilized if the student completed their own revision prior," one note read.

In TAFE Maths preparation, difficulty keeping concepts fresh between lessons made independent review essential; missing this meant needing to re-learn steps each time, delaying advancement to new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Gawler East recently noticed Jasmine, a Year 10 student, not only using her calculator accurately for algebra and measurement problems but also starting to tackle new types of questions by applying methods she'd learned previously—something she used to hesitate with.

Meanwhile, Elysia (Year 11) has begun openly telling her tutor when she's stuck, rather than staying quiet or guessing; now she uses step-by-step strategies and even creates her own "cheat sheets" to guide herself through tough BODMAS questions.

For a younger student, Jai (Year 4), counting by 3s was a challenge last month, but after practising skip-counting on the playground bricks, he showed his mum how quickly he could do it on his own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very pleased with the program to date. Stephen is a very nice young man and a good tutor. David our son enjoys his teaching style and tutoring.

I was very happy with James' tutoring. Warren was a great tutor for James and as I mentioned on the phone,I wish we had found him sooner. In the short time that James did have his tutoring, I did notice he has become more confident and independent with his maths. Although he is still not a straight A student, he did show some improvement.

Thank you for the follow up.  Belinda is fantastic.  Ben really likes her.  I know it has only been 3 weeks but Ben is already feeling more confident with his maths.  His exams start next week so Belinda is revising with him.  I'm very happy, thank you.

Local Spots for Tutoring
