As a tutor, the most important thing is to "preach". Tutors who don't know how to "preach" often only focus on academic matters, which can easily lead to intensified conflicts between teachers and students. The premise of "preaching" is to establish a harmonious teacher-student relationship. I think there are three key points, that is, to be more…

1. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them become more confident with themselves about their ability to achieve the grade they want in the subject they want. Putting things in an easy way and guiding the students to think this way to solve the problem. This is very important, especially in maths and science subjects, the key for students to improve is by really understanding and the best way to check is to are they able to explain it back to you on another day, not to memorize by hard, maths also not…

Building up students' interest on the subject they learned is the most important thing.Because it could be a strong internal drive for students to learn actively, to think positively and to explore. And interest always arises in certain contexts. Especially in mathematics lessons, students often feel boring and monotonous, and the learning…

In my opinion, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them and guide them to understand their true potential. A tutor should correctly recognise the strengths and weaknesses of the student and design a unique learning plan that allows the student to work on a comfortable pace and be self-motivated and confident…

To help students understand what they can do or what options they have when they have questions or problems is important. Exclusively giving answers and solutions doesn't help students think critically and understand clearly. Inside GilbertonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Chloe worked on telling time and practiced adding and subtracting using simple word problems.

In Year 9, Sam tackled quadratic equations and solved related questions in preparation for an upcoming test.

For Year 11, Olivia focused on the unit circle—reviewing key values—and also went through specific exam paper questions to build confidence with trigonometry concepts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student's lesson showed a pattern of relying too much on memory rather than setting out full working—"needs to make sure she slows down and writes out every step of the equation." This often led to confusion with formulae and mistakes during tests.

A Year 8 student came to lessons without organizing past queries or unfinished assignments, meaning valuable session time was spent searching for problems instead of building understanding.

In Year 4 maths, a student repeatedly counted on fingers instead of recalling times tables, slowing progress when tackling mixed multiplication tasks in class.

Recent Achievements

A Gilberton tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to stay silent when confused now starts sessions by sharing difficulties, leading to real discussions and faster problem-solving together.

In Year 11 maths, one student was able to work through complex derivatives independently after just a few reminders about logarithm laws—previously, he needed step-by-step guidance for every question.

Meanwhile, a younger student who had struggled with times tables now insists on trying problems unaided and gets nearly all of them correct before asking for help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We had been looking for a Maths tutor for my son for the HSC for some time with very limited success. Companies would indicate they were able to supply a tutor but when push came to shove there was either no one available or the booked tutor never showed up. In desperation I spoke to a friend who I knew had a tutor for her son. She recommended Ezy Math and indicated she was extremely happy with her son's tutor Faraz. Ezy Math were easy to get on to and able to find me a tutor for my son almost straight away. I was really pleased to be advised that the tutor was Faraz whom I had already heard good things about. Faraz contacted me and we were able to organise a suitable time. Faraz has done a fantastic job keeping my son motivated and on track. The point of the sessions for us was guided revision and to consolidate the learning that was happening in the classroom. Faraz was calm and patient and able to keep my son focussed. My son has indicated he felt the sessions were extremely useful, and really helped him to pull together what he needed for the exams. Feedback reports sent monthly let me know that Faraz felt things were on track and where improvement was needed. Invoicing and payment was easy and no fuss via the website. All in all I have been really pleased with Ezy Math and so has my son.

Lucy is wonderful. Dominique is participating well in the sessions and covering areas I feel she requires assistance in.

Things are going well. Chris is doing a very good job. Since the tutoring sessions, my daughter seems to be more positive and has stated that Chris is explaining the work well, which makes it easier to understand. I am confident that this was the right decision and can't wait to see the results.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Walkerville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wilderness School.
