Besides knowledge and communication skills. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to identify and guide them through the biggest hurdles of their problems such as being lazy or poor time management that makes them struggle during their studies. I believe this is the most important since being able to help them solve their…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, provide personalized support, and create a positive learning environment. Every student learns differently, so it’s crucial to adapt teaching methods to suit their needs. A tutor should also encourage questions and make sure the student feels comfortable…

From my experience I noticed that there are students who still hold their voices at school when they have a doubt due to several factors. Once they are comfortable with a tutor, they are more open to questions in their mind and try solving them one on one with the tutor. On this note, I find being a tutor amusing as I always find solving their…

A tutor should be able to identify the weaknesses and strengths of a student and lift their confidence first. An excellent tutor has patience to work with the student until the student's needs are achieved. Giving positive feedback when they present their work, which will then stimulate their work ethic. I consider being a mentor as an important quality in terms of teaching. Without being a reliable consultant, I don't believe a tutor can bring out the best from students. Being a mentor also means setting an example for them; how to manage own study habits and schedules. I will be there to support students in various way, not only for academic…

Every student is different, from personalities to their academic goals. Tutors should identify what sort of unique methods they should approach their students to give them the best tutoring experience! Most importantly, I hope students are able to have a good time learning and interacting with me. Being able to simplify and relate concepts in real…

To individualise teachings tailored to the needs of a given student. It is important to accomodate to the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and consequently plan a learning regime in accordance. I belive that tutors are not merely teachers but mentors that guide students through their learning. Tutors, especially those who has been a student themselves are able to employ their experiences to provide advice to students on effective study methods and techniques that can truely build a student’s confidence for a certain subject. Having…

I think first and foremost is adaptability. 2. Discipline comes after once you get adapted. 3. Communication with easing out the complex concepts. 4. Listening their problems and catering on them. 5. A teacher has to be patient while working with a student 6. At last but not least, humility is one of the most important thing when it comes…

I think the most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. They should be able to ask as many questions as possible and make them think and learn about problem solving. I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. A few of the most important skills for the field are patience and…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is make the student feel truly listened to. When a student feels heard and understood, they gain confidence. I also believe it's about helping them fall in love with the subject not just memorise it. If they can connect with the topic and see its value or beauty in some way, learning becomes…

Local Reviews

Thanh has increased my daughter's confidence in her maths ability. She has a no nonsense but fun approach that keeps a teenager positive about continuing tutoring. My daughter likes that Thanh has different methods of teaching concepts that make more sense to her. And best of all she is positive about my daughters progress.

Inside Glen WaverleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Kye worked on long multiplication with two- and three-digit numbers (including zeroes) and was introduced to division using visual strategies.

Year 7 student Elle focused on probability concepts, tackling practice questions involving multiple events and converting fractions to decimals as part of test preparation.

For Year 8, revision for Kye included rearranging algebraic equations and reviewing fundamental skills in bracket multiplication, helping consolidate methods for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student struggled to bring past tests for review, which meant missed chances to clarify recurring mistakes—"he couldn't check which algebra steps were lost in the test."

In Year 8 maths, forgetting to attempt set homework limited practice with foundational topics like BEDMAS and basic equations.

One Year 6 student often tried questions in their head without showing working; this hid errors when tackling area problems.

Across both junior and senior years, not recording confusing questions during school videos led to gaps that lingered into lessons.

Without these process tweaks, confusion quietly accumulates between sessions.

Recent Achievements

A Glen Waverley tutor noticed some great changes lately. Kye, a high school student, recently brought home his data test with 93%—a big leap after earlier trouble remembering statistics concepts, and he now checks his notes to solve new problems without prompting.

Elle, also in high school, picked up algebraic angle questions much faster than before; she's started explaining her working out aloud rather than guessing quietly.

Meanwhile, Trishelle (primary) has begun completing all her homework each week on her own initiative and points out exactly which maths areas still worry her before starting new tasks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glen Waverley Secondary College.
