The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. From my previous experience, one of the most important things I have learned about students is that some of them are just afraid of asking questions because they think that their questions are stupid or their questions do not matter. If the tutor cannot be patient with the…

Asses, analyze and appraise: since every student doesn't learn the same way or comes from the same background of experience and understanding it is vital that a tutor establishes their student’s position before commencing with any tutoring My strength is that i enjoy my work and teach students with full passion. The most important thing is to give the students better clarity than when they first joined the session. I have a very logical approach to teaching my specialty subjects, taking methodical and incremental learning steps to ensure the session is successful. In addition, by focusing on student comprehension, I make sure that the student does not…

A trait I consider to be very important as a tutor is being a good leader. They should be very responsible for their actions, meaning that they will ensure each tutoring session is effective for the student. They should also be assertive, trustworthy and mindful, which helps them offer guidance to other students. Lastly, they should keep an open…

A tutor can provide the pathway of learning. The tutor should understand the position of his/her students. Significantly, the tutor helps to form a strong foundation which helps students to achieve the goals. Basically, teaching is an art. I prefer doing teaching in a simple way. Students can learn better if subjects material is divided into…

Develop their love/passion for a particular subject/field. For young minds, effective tutoring/teaching is extremely important as it makes them aware of their career options and shapes them for good future prospects. When tutoring is improper, a student might quickly lose interest in a subject area which otherwise they may prove to be good at. I…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a study routine and to teach them how to study efficiently. This will allow the student to develop a sense of independence and help them organise their time properly, and as a result of being well organised I believe it will help the student to feel more…

According to me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand his/her situation and academic difficulties. It's important to relate to the student and their problem in order to be able to solve it. Another very important thing is trust. There has to be mutual trust for a knowledge transfer to happen. Tutors are just not there to help students with their students. Their most important role is to be friends and be able to guide their students in the right direction. If tutors become friends, the students listen and trust them more. Of course this does not mean that students can take tutors for a ride. As a tutor I am hardworking, diligent and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there for them not only as a teacher but also as a friend. In the context of Science and Mathematics, the key aspect is HOW to think. Science requires imagination, innovation as well as an excellent recall and grasp of modern scientific understanding. Mathematics, being a tool - requires the students to be well-equipped with the basic mathematical tools. To directly answer this question; a tutor must…

My daughter has only had 2 sessions with Jasmine but already she is motivated and has a much better understanding of the areas of concern. I high recommended EzyMath tutoring. Great followup and communication. Looking forward to seeing more fantastic results.

Inside GordonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alice practised simplifying algebraic expressions and converting word problems into equations, focusing on building confidence with basic algebra.

For Year 9, Ben worked through solving inequalities and applying scientific notation in real-world contexts like time and tax calculations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah tackled financial mathematics topics such as depreciation and interpreting normal distribution curves using past exam questions for revision.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, a student's algebra work suffered from messy handwriting and unclear working out, which led to confusion when reviewing factorisation steps. "He gets confused over his own working out," a tutor observed during practice with equations—time was lost retracing logic instead of learning new techniques.

In Year 10 financial maths, notes were sometimes disorganised or incomplete; extra incomes and expenses became mixed up, making it difficult to check answers later.

For a senior student tackling parametric equations in Year 12, heavy reliance on school notes proved risky when errors crept in—"we did not manage to use most part of it."

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Gordon noticed one Year 10 student who used to get stuck on multi-step algebraic equations now starts each problem by outlining the process aloud, making fewer errors and needing less prompting.

A Year 11 student who previously hesitated with financial maths has begun working through tax and expense calculations independently, even finishing homework before sessions without reminders.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student surprised her tutor by breaking down complex shapes into smaller parts to calculate area—something she struggled with last term—and then chose to try an extra challenge question on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks Gene, so far, Jamie's response has been very good.  He has had 2 lessons to date, as last week was cancelled at our request (he was away on camp). Jamie has responded very well to Eshan, who's approach is unassuming, gentle, but persuasive and constructive.  Jamie actually looks forward to spending time with Eshan to teach him his Maths strategies. We look forward to seeing Eshan again next week. Thanks also for the newsletter.  I have to say that I think your supportive written material is very useful!

All is great with Nathan. He's a lovely man and April has her block testing for maths tomorrow and she's confident- a good sign. April will now have a couple of weeks break due to holidays but Nathan will certainly be coming back. April quietly winges  about the homework Nathan sets for her but we don't interfere and are glad that Nathan makes sure its completed as April's attitude to maths was pretty bad.

Anne is loving tutoring and James is doing an amazing job so yes we are very happy and wish to continue!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ku-ring-gai Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ravenswood School for Girls, Boarding House.
