Being able to provide support. Sometimes, a student just needs someone to talk to- and knowing that they've been through the same thing that they have, it empowers them and encourages them to make proactive decisions in their learning. I view the foundation of effective mentorship as one of trust, mutual respect, and goal driven progress that is…

Inside GosnellsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Neha focused on using algebra to represent numbers and practiced substitution in algebra with guided examples.

In Year 10, Tanvi worked through analysis of the film "Rabbit-Proof Fence," including character, setting, and symbol discussions, then completed a still image analysis to support her assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Dylan covered financial mathematics basics by calculating simple and compound interest and applied these skills through targeted worksheet exercises.

Recent Challenges

Relied heavily on a calculator for even straightforward calculations, as one tutor observed: "She reached for the calculator before trying mental math or estimation." This habit slowed her problem-solving and masked gaps in basic numeracy.

In algebra, avoided writing out full working for equations—skipping steps led to confusion when reviewing mistakes later.

The student did not complete research homework on World War I, leaving too little lesson time for essay writing; the introduction was finished, but body paragraphs were left blank until next week.

Recent Achievements

One Gosnells tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who, after struggling with finance topics like simple and compound interest, was recently able to apply the formulas independently during their session.

Another high schooler, previously hesitant to ask for help with algebraic mistakes, began spotting and correcting her own errors before the tutor pointed them out—a first for her.

In Year 6 English, Tanvi, who once needed step-by-step support for essay structure, took initiative by writing a practice essay on her own using the TEEL method and only sought feedback after finishing.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I think Molly is really getting a lot out of the sessions and a lot of support. I think that she is also a good role model for Molly.

Michelle is awesome and has taught me so much in a short amount of time. She never doubts my level of ability and is always encouraging me to go above and beyond. Her knowledge of specific maths topics is just out of this world. You guys have one awesome lady on your hands!

We have been extremely happy with our son Jacks progress and we are forever thankful for all that Thiru has done teaching and coaching Jack up to speed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Knowledge Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gosnells Primary School.
