I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to listen. It is important for a tutor to build a relationship with the students so that tutoring sessions don't become a chore, and the student feels comfortable seeking help with things in these sessions. Thus, I think that listening to and responding to the needs of the…

The most important aspect about tutoring is to be able to assess the ability of the students and tune the tutoring method accordingly. While some students can understand pretty quickly, there are students who require repeated teaching. The ultimate objective is to meet the expectations of students and parents. 1. I believe that the one of the most important things a physics tutor can do is to help a student truly realise their academic potential, especially since the needs of one student may be overlooked in a classroom setting. Inside GowrieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ava focused on mastering boxplots and scatter plots, as well as working through a range of algebraic inequalities.

For Year 10, Ethan practiced solving quadratic equations both by factorising and using the quadratic formula, along with sketching related graphs to interpret solutions visually.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam worked on simultaneous equations using substitution methods and reinforced his skills in expanding and factorising binomials through step-by-step examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, a student arrived without having completed any extra exam revision since the last session; as one tutor observed, "we need to work on building independent study as a habit."

Another Year 9 student frequently came unprepared, unable to identify which topics needed review before tutoring began.

In Year 7 mathematics, homework was often left incomplete or done incorrectly at home but finished correctly when supported in person—suggesting a gap in independent application.

For a primary student, distractions and talking led to lost focus during lessons, with simple arithmetic operations like addition and subtraction sometimes confused as a result.

Recent Achievements

One Gowrie tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's approach to exam prep—after struggling with revision strategies, he started writing key problem-solving steps on cards during sessions and referred back to them unprompted, helping him tackle practice questions more independently.

In Year 8 maths, another student who used to hesitate when something didn't make sense is now confidently letting the tutor know exactly where she needs help instead of staying silent.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner who previously counted on fingers surprised his tutor by solving addition problems quickly without needing any physical aids or reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Thai and the tutoring set up. Massimo and Thai have established a comfortable routine and it appears to be working for everyone involved. I can see that Massimo's confidence has already improved and he has regained his motivation.

It's all going really well Beaux breezed through a recent test of percentages that she and Tara had covered and which she had previously struggled with before. I will certainly recommend you to anyone who may need tutoring.

The tutoring is going well. Carla has a smile on her face after each session. Aisling is a great tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Erindale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gowrie Primary School.
