I consider the understanding of the student to be important and making sure that they achieve progress. I make sure that they properly understand and they find the session satisfying. I also make sure that I am easy to talk to so that there is clear communication between the tutor and student. I also think that it is important to make sure the…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand how they learn and help them in a way that will help them understand. I also think it is important to help the student, to some extent, enjoy their work so they are motivated to improve and continue learning. I believe my greatest strength is understanding different…

Personally, I feel the most important thing for a tutor is patience to teach as well as learn from students. Not everyone has the skill to be patient enough to make sure that a concept is clear , nor the effort to make it clear by teaching until the student understands I do not have much experiences in teaching, however I enjoy and love teaching…

Help them gain understanding of a thought they are not clear with, and motivate them to continue thinking things through in a unique way. Treat the student in a nonthreatening, calm manner. Respect the student and their thought processes and engage them in the material. Do not be hyper-critical. Be patient and listen to your students. Gather feedback about what it is that they do not understand about the particular subject. From then on, hone in on what they know and do not know, and teach them from there. Rarely does a tutor know what the student is actually struggling with unless they listen and start from the root cause. I have great…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is make them feel like they have someone they can trust in their corner. A tutor is someone who takes…

A tutor should know the students' questions and worries and find ways to deal with rather than teaching them general knowledge. In this way, students can improve their grades and know how to perform. Another important thing is that students need to be nurtured with a good habit in learning, which is essential for their future studies. I am majored…

Inside GracevilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Oliver practised long multiplication and division, as well as working with decimals and identifying different angles.

Year 7 student Sophie focused on graphing and number lines, using plotting activities to reinforce understanding.

For Year 10, Emily worked through solving line equations between specific points and applied problem-solving skills to algebraic contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student reviewing past test results in maths sometimes missed chances to correct errors—notes read, "going over past test results and some more problem solving," but little feedback was acted on before moving ahead.

In Year 8, one learner found it tough to follow multi-step questions in algebra, losing track of process when calculations became lengthy; as noted, "a bit tough following long form multi-tiered questions."

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student practicing long multiplication often left working untidy, making it harder to spot mistakes. In each case, confusion or uncertainty slowed progress rather than lack of content knowledge.

Recent Achievements

One Graceville tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid exam prep now actively seeking out practice problems, especially in linear functions—she even combined equations on her own for the first time last week.

A Year 7 student, previously hesitant with problem solving, surprised his tutor by tackling multi-step homework questions independently and finishing ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who'd struggled to distinguish certain letters can now sound out almost the entire alphabet and self-corrects when mixing up 'J' and 'G'. Last session, he read a full page aloud without skipping any tricky letters.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Lauren seems to be going well and most importantly is engaging with Steph and feeling better about Maths in general. We are very happy with Steph so far. She is a lovely girl who is always punctual and the communication between us is excellent. And I think Lauren looks forward to her sessions with Steph, which can only be a positive!

She has been SUPER professional. I would recommend her without hesitation. She is responsible, has made a connection with my son, has communicated with me and kept me informed all the time. She is a great asset. We look forward to working with her in the future.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Indooroopilly Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Christ the King School.
