Some of the most important things are to help build confidence in your student - it can often be challenging to do well if you don't have that confidence. A tutor can also provide useful advice and feedback as to the flaws of a student in a particular subject to help them work on it. A tutor also gives an additional and refreshing insight into a…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is not just delivering information for a student to rote learn, but to demonstrate their unique way of understanding concepts and solving problems, so that their student(s) can use this insight to develop their own way to learn and solve problems, allowing them to become…

Instead of teaching in a standard linear fashion, I prefer to let the pupil choose what they would like to practice and I will explain the concept while showing how the idea can be applied and adjusted. I also believe worded problems are a strong point that should be focused on as they test the knowledge of the student and how the student can…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to always have faith in the student despite witnessing constant failures and lack of improvement. I think it's really important to be able to empathise and simply be with the student during these difficult moments, whilst letting them know they have the potential to improve and succeed over any…

Is to provide support, as I student I know it gets hard to understand what teachers are trying to say. A tutor is meant to simplify what is being taught in class and helping out the student to be prepared for their future adventures in an academic level. I am a talkative and hardworking person. I like getting things write and I feel like by doing…

I think the support a tutor should have for their student should not only be academic in nature– but rather, I believe the student's leadership qualities and extracurricular potential should be a focus for any tutor. I believe my speaking to my students on how to live healthy, balanced lives can support them in becoming multi-talented students…

I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

The most important thing is to empower the student. The best thing would be to help them understand how their own minds work, how their own (unique) learning process works- that can make them unstoppable. My long chain of experience. Just being attentive and considerate of a student's needs. I know if I'm paying money I want to really get the most out of it and see it reflected in my results. A vital aspect also is the ability of a tutor to adapt to situations where some methods of teachings don't work. However, it's also important for a tutor to remain calm and composed as it…

We are very happy with Thai and the tutoring set up. Massimo and Thai have established a comfortable routine and it appears to be working for everyone involved. I can see that Massimo's confidence has already improved and he has regained his motivation.

Inside Green ValleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student James worked through problems involving surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders, then practised solving quadratic equations and identifying turning points in graphs.

In Year 9, Sophie focused on factorising quadratics using the cross method as well as revising how to sketch logs and exponential functions by hand.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel tackled differentiation from first principles and used chain rule techniques, along with extra practice graphing stationary points using sample questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student often tried to solve algebraic problems entirely in their head rather than writing out steps, which made it difficult to spot errors or track progress. As a tutor observed, "if he takes it slower and writes down his working out so he can see the steps that he's taking, he would be able to easily solve questions."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student relied heavily on formula sheets during quadratic equations and sometimes avoided checking their answers step-by-step—leading to repeated mistakes that could have been caught earlier. The exam desk felt crowded with loose notes instead of clear solutions.

Recent Achievements

In a Green Valley tutoring session, a Year 11 student finally applied the distributive law and quadratic formula to solve for x independently, after previously needing reminders at each step.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student showed new initiative in reviewing exam errors—this time, he explained where he went wrong without prompting and corrected his working on the spot.

For a younger learner, one tutor noted that although he still looks distracted at times, he's now quietly thinking through problems and getting answers right more often. At the end of his lesson, he completed all ten problems without any guessing.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Emily has truly benefited from tutoring and I would not hesitate to recommend your service or to come back again if we felt Emily needed further help.

l'm very happy!! Bridget has learnt so much, the tutor is such a beautitful person and an amazing teacher

We are more than happy with James. He has made a strong impression on both Jack and Sam. Both boys are keen and eager to please James. He has a lovely quiet demeanor and is constantly praising the boys and clearing explaining the steps as they are learning.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Valley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Green Valley Public School.
