Tutors should also be considerate to their student by considering their needs and how they like to learn so that their student's highest potential is achieved. I believe I am patient, flexible,…

It is essential to maintain a good rapport with the student so they feel comfortable around you and feel that they can openly ask you questions. Therefore, creating a positive environment which the student is happy to engage in…

When I tutor students, I tend not to follow the same pattern or process of learning for every kid. I believe tutor can play huge role in a student’s life when it comes to teaching them how to fish rather than serving the fish. Charley May, Gymea Bay

Inside Gymea BayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Sam worked on ratios and rates, including interpreting graphs, as well as exploring the number plane through a range of practice problems.

Year 10 student Mia focused on trigonometric functions—solving problems involving amplitude, period, and phase shift—and tackled transformation of these functions using past paper questions for consolidation.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex reviewed differentiation techniques such as applying first principles and practiced finding derivatives of exponential functions with step-by-step examples.

Recent Challenges

During a recent Year 11 Maths session, lack of organization became apparent when the student's book was unavailable—this delayed progress and meant extra time had to be spent reconstructing prior work.

In a Year 9 Physics lesson, "she needs more practice to apply the concepts she understands in order to solve a bit more complicated problems," highlighting a tendency to stick with familiar examples rather than tackling challenging applications.

For a Year 12 student, incomplete homework slowed momentum: missed practice questions meant valuable feedback couldn't be given before exams.

Each scenario left gaps that made revision or deeper understanding harder later on.

Recent Achievements

One Gymea Bay tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through maths problems now consistently pauses to check her answers for sign and number errors—something she'd rarely done before.

In another session, a Year 10 student in physics moved from only understanding definitions to independently describing kinematics connections with real-world examples, which had been a sticking point.

Meanwhile, during primary sessions, one younger student who previously hesitated to ask for help began interrupting politely when unsure, leading her to finish all five set questions without guidance by the end of the lesson.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We could not be happier with Mandar he is very pleasant to deal with, always on time and very good with the Khai, Piper and Chase.

Connor was great and has put Indigo on a great pathway for working independently with her maths.

Kerry helped Ella with her confidence and she did really well with her math test. Her scores have been going up.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Miranda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gymea Bay Public School.
