I believe that the most important thing about a tutor is their ability to motivate and encourage a student in their learning journey. A tutor must be able to show enthusiasm and positivity towards learning, and rather than using rote learning techniques, to engage the student so that they can demonstrate longevity in their education. It is…

As a student and a tutor, I am eager to not only teach my students the knowledge they required from the curriculum but also how they can use the techniques, ideas they learned and apply them to their everyday lives. I believe that learning is not just about textbooks, it is also about using your intuition to figure out solutions to problems. Thus,…

Make sure that students feel comfortable in the environment of learning, and not just teaching them the concepts they need to get good grades but also help them develop skills that can be applied later in life like critical thinking, I think it’s also important that as tutors, we help take some of the stress that naturally comes with school off…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is remove the fear around a subject. For many students, especially in maths and science, the volume of information can be overwhelming. Even when they understand a concept, they may struggle to apply it under exam conditions due to panic or poor time management. My goal is to help students…

- A tutor needs to be able to guide the students into considering the application of what they are learning and being able to provide them with the support that they need. A tutor can also provide students with emotional support as sometimes it is difficult for students to deal with the balance between life and studying. - Strong listening -…

A good tutor takes the time to understand these aspects and tailors their teaching approach accordingly. I personally consider the interactive and "adaptive" aspects of being a tutor to be the most important things a tutor can do for their student. In my opinion, keeping the student engaged, such as through mini breaks or games between long sessions of work, is the most effective way of teaching them in a fun, yet informative manner. Moreover, being…

Help them to believe they can do it. Whether its solving a really hard math problem or understanding a scientific concept. Help the student to not necessarily hate the subject but see it as a pathway to help them if not further in life then to help them get through this tough period. Most people's perception of the job of a tutor is always to guide a student to be successful in the study/subject. Although that is an important role as a tutor, I find the most important aspect a tutor can do for a student is to further ignite their passion and interest in their subject. No matter how much a tutor can help, but if a student does…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the subject in their level of understanding and teach them the fundamentals. Sometimes it can be a challenge to explain some advanced theories especially to young minds but if we teach them to master the basics, then it would be easier for them to grasp future lessons. I…

I consider that the most important thing is faith in their students. No matter how dire the situation is, a tutor's faith and belief in their student should not waver. As students are looking to better themselves, a tutor's belief in them is crucial as they look towards their mentor for guidance. This, in addition with a tutor's well researched…

For a tutor to be an eloquent individual immersed with a wealth of knowledge it useless, if they do not frequently follow up with their students. It needs "regular maintenance" in car analogy. Tutoring is a marathon not a sprint. Tutors must hope to retain the students’ knowledge rather than sophisticatedly teach content without regular revision…

A tutor should be able to understand how they can help a student and should teach content or provide help in a way that suits their student's learning style. This would ensure that students are able to learn easier and with less stress. Students should not just be taught what to learn but also how to learn depending on the topic learnt, since it…

The most important thing a tutor can do is adjust their teaching methods and style based on each student. Teaching with only one style and using the same methods for everyone won't work, and if you can't adjust, your sessions becomes very robotic and boring. A tutor typically works 1-on-1, therefor it's important to treat each student as an individual and figure out what style of learning works best for them. A tutor should collaborate with the student to help them reach academic heights that they would not be able to with regular schooling alone. I am positive, encouraging, but also thorough. I am…

Being patient and flexible. Each child has a different learning style and speed. Local Reviews

I am extremely pleased with EzyMath Tutoring. My daughter needed a few tutorials to brush up on her maths going into Year 7. Her tutor, Sam Wise, is an excellent tutor. He is very easy going and patient. Sam taught Jemma with care and patience and made everything easy for her to understand. I would recommend EzyMaths to any parent whose child needs any type of maths tutoring, whether it be basic or advanced. Thankyou EzyMath and Sam!

Inside HallamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Zoe worked through the Pythagoras theorem, applying it to solve right-angled triangle problems, and practised calculating areas and volumes of cylinders and cones.

For Year 10, Jay revised algebra skills by expanding and simplifying equations before tackling more complex quadratic expressions with fractions and multiple variables.

In VCE Chemistry, Priya solved galvanic cell questions using half-cell diagrams and calculations, then completed volumetric analysis exercises involving titration steps and related maths.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often handed in homework incomplete, such as submitting only an introduction and one body paragraph for a full essay task; as noted, "had a week to complete one essay, only wrote introduction and one body paragraph."

In Year 11 English, another student did not edit thoroughly—errors that could have been fixed on review remained in the final submission.

For a Year 9 analysis task, paragraphs lacked evidence and depth because annotation during reading was unclear, making it difficult to structure strong responses later.

These process gaps led to last-minute scrambles and underdeveloped written work.

Recent Achievements

One Hallam tutor noticed a Year 11 student who'd struggled with independent problem-solving now working through equations entirely on his own by the end of their session.

In English, a Year 9 student who previously missed deadlines finished her creative writing homework early and made fewer grammar mistakes than before.

A younger primary student, new to tackling spelling tests, showed clear progress—scoring higher this week and correctly identifying tricky words that had caused trouble in earlier lessons.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for your email, we are very happy with the work Christian has performed with our daughters as are they. We consider ourselves fortunate to have such a highly skilled tutor in Christian and look forward to continuing these arrangements

Sophie has been good so far, Barnaby seems happy with her teaching method. She is a very nice, pleasant young lady, who seems to know all about maths and the curriculum.

Yes we are very happy with Nuradha.   He is extremely friendly, very reliable and my son has connected with him well. I will definitely keep you informed of our progress.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bunjil Place Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hallam Secondary College.
