The most important thing is communication - especially stuff that is left unsaid. It's important to pick up the students struggling areas and really walk through it with them step by step. Repetition if necessary. My strengths are the logic and problem solving deduction that I can instill into students. I do not just focus on the problems at hand,…

As clichĂ© as it sounds, I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not give up on the student. Patience and persistence is key to finding what allows a student to succeed. Likewise, being able to adapt is very important to a tutor. Knowing how to change the way you teach a student can be very valuable for their…

A tutor can impact a student's life to a great extent. A good tutor can instil many study skills that will serve the student well in academics and in life. Skills like organization, task initiation and time management are essential to being a great learner. Tutors can work at these skills to create confident, independent learners. I believe that…

I think the most important thing is to be simple - not confuse the child with an overwhelming amount of information but rather take things slowly and ask directed questions to take them to each step of the answer. I have always had an intense dedication to doing well at school but despite long hours of work put in, I didn't always get the best…

A tutor should guide and support a student in understanding the subject matter, but also help them develop independent learning skills. This involves breaking down complex ideas into simpler terms, providing examples, and encouraging questions. A tutor should create a supportive environment where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Overall, the most…

Being a tutor, i feel like we should be able to understand the problems of the students and guide them. Inside HamersleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Alex worked on factorising algebraic expressions and solving equations using elimination and simplification strategies.

Year 10 student Olivia focused on interpreting memoir texts, specifically analysing simile, alliteration, organic imagery, juxtaposition, and tone in "Born a Crime" to prepare for a comparative essay on moving to a new place.

For Year 6 student Ethan, recent lessons included adding and subtracting fractions as well as converting between decimals and fractions through step-by-step examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tackling algebra was observed skipping written steps in multi-part questions, making it difficult to catch sign errors—"needs to display working out for test situations or for long calculations with multiple steps."

In a Year 8 maths session, incomplete homework meant one learner hadn't practiced division methods before an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, a senior student preparing for binomial expansion leaned heavily on calculator checks instead of reviewing their own simplification process.

For a Year 5 lesson, drifting attention and distractions led to forgotten times tables mid-task, causing pauses as the student searched for answers already learned.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Hamersley noticed a Year 9 student who used to freeze on algebra questions now working through equations with clear logic and even simplifying expressions without prompting.

Another high schooler recently handled a tricky science problem by independently explaining all the forces acting on a canoe, something he hesitated to do before.

In Year 3, one student—who often mixed up similar letters—was able to write most of the alphabet clearly by lesson's end, only flipping 'p' and 'q' once. The session finished with her writing neatly on lined paper for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with the way things have started with Todd. India is finding her sessions very helpful and Todd is very patient and constructive.

Our tutor Adrian was excellent for my daughter to help "fill the gaps" prior to starting high school this year. Adrian made maths fun, was personable and professional. Ezy Maths provided excellent service & communication .

Mathew and Phi are working well together. Phi is a lovely young man, very polite and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Phi as he is building a good connection with Matthew and has been very patient, repeating his instructions and challenging Mathew to think about what he is doing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Girrawheen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glendale Primary School.
