The most important things a tutor can do is to provide motivation and communication. It is important that a student is able to ask questions and be engaged in their studies. A tutor is an educator who can provide students with extra support when they are lacking confidence and understanding in the chosen subject area. The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is provide them with motivation to move on and keep pushing. Since I know those times are not easy i reckon helping students get through with their maximum ability is crucial. I am very patient and I am willing to explain something as many times until the student has understood the concept.…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is serve as a secondary teacher/mentor to a school teacher. As school teachers have to focus on a large class (usually around 30 students), they are unable to address the needs of each student. As each student has their own struggles and needs, an exterior tutor provides…

In my personal opinion, I believe a game-changer for students is to have a tutor who helps build their confidence. Rather than only imparting knowledge, a tutor should foster a learning atmosphere that makes students comfortable to ask questions, make mistakes and even question the knowledge of the tutor. My strengths as a tutor include the…

I believe that teachers/tutors make the greatest impact on a developing child or young adult's mind. Apart from the child's family, a teacher/tutor has the most influential face to face contact with a student, where it be as a mentor or as a friend. Hence, I strongly feel that tutors have the opportunity and responsibility to educate and develop a…

Tutors need to be understanding and patient while knowing that students may not have the required knowledge to solve a simple question quickly. They may also have knowledge gaps which the tutor will need to discover and revise with the student for their question solving ability to improve. The age old question: “What am I going to do with my life when I finish school, and how do I get there? I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student to be to foster a growth mindset. Being accepting of any & all questions in a friendly and non-judgmental manner, so as to make sure the student feels comfortable asking such questions, because otherwise it would defeat the purpose of being tutored. I also think that it's vital for the tutor to give their students the best chance at being able to succeed with their own ability…

Inside HammondvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Frazer focused on fractions, decimals, and percentages, practicing conversions between them and solving real-world problems.

In Year 10, Emily worked through bearings questions in mathematics and developed her introductory paragraph for a "Life is Beautiful" essay in English.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mia reviewed critical path analysis concepts as part of HSC exam preparation and went over her trial exam responses to identify key areas for improvement.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students struggled with homework completion and organization.

In Year 11 English, engagement with the subject was low, and little time was spent on assignments, which meant gaps in analysis weren't addressed between sessions.

For Year 10 Maths, as noted: "Byron did not complete his homework for the previous weeks. This isn't the first time." Missed work led to repeated confusion when new topics built on old ones.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student arrived unprepared for class content and homework—extra lesson time went into catching up instead of tackling extension tasks or feedback.

Recent Achievements

A Hammondville tutor noticed Byron stayed focused through the whole maths section this week, a shift from earlier lessons where he'd often lose concentration and need reminders to stay on task.

In Year 10, Mason finished his entire assignment before the session ended—last term, he'd rarely complete more than half in one sitting without prompting.

Another high school student spent less time stalling and got straight into revision questions, something she usually avoids at home.

One primary student quickly recognised different types of angles after previously mixing them up during class activities.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorebank Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hammondville Public School.
