Teachers are considered as one of the people who shape someone's future or career. By giving good pieces of advice by basing myself on my personal experience as a student, I'll make sure that the student is always on the right track. I'll try to inspire students regularly by for example talking about awesome stuffs in science and maths which would…

The most important thing a tutor can do is make the student enjoy the subject he teaches. Additionally, a tutor can comfort the student that there is no need to be afraid of the subject. If he or she faces any problem in the subject, that the tutor will be there to help them solve the problem. My greatest strength as a tutor is that I am always…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clarity, build confidence, and foster a love for learning. First, a tutor should simplify complex concepts and explain them in ways that make sense to the student. It’s about making the subject less intimidating and more approachable. Second, building the…

The most important thing that is necessary in learning is that we understand what we study. Though it seems difficult, giving each student the individual attention is what a tutor should strive to achieve. The different mindsets in the class should be brought together and set in a pathway where they get excited about learning something new every…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure the student clearly understands the topic, not just memorises it. It's about helping them build real confidence so that when they answer questions, whether in class or in exams, they're not second-guessing themselves. That means breaking things down in a way that actually makes sense…

It would be empathy, in my opinion. I am aware that there are intelligent people who are easily able to surpass me in knowledge, but I believe that to effectively teach and learn, one must have a sufficient level of empathy. Understanding what they understand and don't. If you don't adapt accordingly, not only will it take longer, but even if you can help them understand, you won't foster a sense of confidence in the student for further studies. Adaptability and a deeper understanding of the subject matter I'm teaching, which lets me approach problems from different…

Above all else, I think a tutor can give a student confidence in whatever work students have due. Once their confidence is built up, they will respond better to not just tutoring outside, but also teaching in the classroom and result to a deeper understanding of the content. Listen to the student. I firmly belive that students know where they lack and what's stopping them from achieving their goals. Ensure the student doesn't lose hope or motivation to study. It is imperative that students get enough time and space to practically apply what they learn in ways that pique their interests. As a tutor I strive to first…

Inside Hampton EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe focused on doubling large numbers and solving multi-step addition problems, then briefly explored fractions using real-life examples.

In Year 9, Liam worked through factorising algebraic expressions and practiced expanding brackets for his upcoming maths test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ben tackled arithmetic and geometric sequences as well as exponential and logarithm questions to deepen understanding ahead of advanced assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 science, a student's note-taking was minimal—he rarely wrote down key lesson points, making later revision harder (he should from now on write down key areas of each lesson in a science book).

During Year 10 algebra, skipping written steps hid small calculation errors and cost marks.

In a Year 11 maths test, time management faltered: "she said she ran out of time during the test so she rushed questions," leading to avoidable mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student completed only familiar multiplication problems for homework, avoiding trickier types and slowing her progress with new concepts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Hampton East recently noticed some great shifts in students' approach to learning. One Year 10 student who used to leave tough algebra questions blank is now confidently writing out each step and even drawing diagrams to break down worded problems—something he hadn't tried before.

Another high schooler, after initially rushing through homework, has started spreading out her practice over the week and now gets more answers right without extra help.

In a Year 4 session, a student who previously hesitated with times tables volunteered that she'd begun exploring fractions on her own and wanted to tackle harder ones next lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorabbin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.
