I believe as a tutor, it is important to teach the subject to the student in a way that is enjoyable while still delivering the knowledge across. It is important that the tutor is not simply feeding the student equations or tricks to achieve good marks, but that the tutor is helping the student understand the topic enough to be able to solve…

I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to empathise with them. Every student has different learning capabilities. It is important for a tutor to understand that and go the extra mile to ensure that every student is able to keep up. I believe that I have a strong grasp on math and physics subjects. I have communication skills as…

Throughout my academic life my teachers and tutors and their passion for learning has sparked my own. Through this experience, I have realised that a tutor must be truly passionate about the subject that they are teaching and care for the students and their future as if it was their own. Even if a teacher was highly experienced in a subject, I…

In my opinion, apart from imparting educational concepts, tutors play a key role in making students feel more confident about where they stand with their learnings. If a student feels comfortable in knowing that they can take any query or concern to their tutor without fretting, the tutor is successful! My areas of strength are definitely patience…

Provide mentoring so that the student can eventually work unassisted in that subject area. Observe the students' weaknesses and build strenth in those areas for the student. Provide inspiration to the student so that they can find their own interest in that subject which in turn will help the student to achieve better results. I have a talent for…

1. A tutor must first believe that every child can succeed. Their confidence in the child alone will be able to shift their attitude towards learning. 2. A tutor must thoroughly understand each student and see them as a whole person, not just a *Mathematics student. 3. This is so that with regular assessments, the tutor can craft a learning…

The most important thing a tutor can do is understand the problems a particular student is facing. Each student might have a different way of thinking and different problems. The tutor needs to figure out the best method for the student so that s/he can learn the most. The tutor needs to clearly explain the concepts and then needs to ensure that…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them skills they can use in life. It's not just about teaching them how to do a single problem, it's how to solve problems down the track. It's also about giving them the confidence in themselves, being confident means they will be less stressed and be able to do their best…

Firstly, a tutor needs to spot what students are in need and look for the best solution for them. For example, students may not be interested in some topics and perform badly, tutor should notice it is not about the ability of the students but the motivation. To solve this problem, tutor should think of planning the lesson in a fun…

A tutor should be able to teach their students in an interesting manner, and be more personal. For me I had a tutor in mathematics in grade 6 and he was almost like a friend (and motivated me to enjoy maths myself), I don't think tutors need to be exactly like teachers as students already have to deal with them at school. Most importantly a tutor…

The most important thing is to be flexible and non-judgemental. You have to be open to different challenges that the student may be facing beyond the subject. Each student is different and has different ways to learn and as such your teaching method should reflect this. I think my strengths are that I am patient but firm when teaching my students.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is share their passion for the subject. Inside Hawthorn EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Jaidan reviewed all operations with fractions—including multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction—by working through exercises from his textbook.

Year 8 Isabella focused on graphing linear functions and calculating gradients, including a quick online discussion to clarify concepts while recovering from illness.

For Year 10 Ethan, the session addressed probability notation and diagrams along with set theory basics, using simple examples to build understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student often rushed through working without writing steps, particularly in algebra and negative numbers; as a tutor noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

In Year 11 methods, another found it challenging to keep track of brackets and correct notation when sketching graphs or working with power functions—missing these details led to confusion during revision.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student's long division answers became muddled because steps weren't clearly set out on paper. This meant extra time was spent searching for small mistakes instead of building new understanding.

Recent Achievements

One Hawthorn East tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously struggling with structuring extended answers in maths, now independently organises solutions and adapts quickly between topics like indices and algebraic equations.

A Year 10 student showed a real shift by reviewing errors from a recent test and then accurately applying Pythagoras' theorem during follow-up questions—something he hesitated with before.

In primary sessions, a younger learner who had difficulty telling time last month is now confidently drawing clock faces for set times and uses visual strategies to solve division problems without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I personally feel that my biggest accomplishment was becoming a more confident individual with strong leadership. This is as I was a mentor to my students whom all looked up to me and I felt more mature and responsible in helping them deal with their academic difficulties. Furthermore, Tutoring also helped me in organisation and time management in allocating tutoring timeslots as well as homework marking into my daily lifestyle. This is truly reflected in my full-time career now where I am able to handle multiple tasks and commitments very effectively. I had been previously been tutoring privately and felt it would be beneficial for me to tutor for an agency in order to attain professional recognition for my resume and future. During my interview process, my tutoring experience definitely weighed into me attaining a graduate role. The main reason I tutor and have been tutoring for such a long time now is the self-satisfaction I get back from helping others. I love relaying knowledge to others who are willing to learn and feel emotionally rewarded when it helps my students academically excel. I would recommend Ezy Math to everyone (tutors and potential clients) as they're very easy to deal with and educate their tutors with ongoing modules as well as provide supplementary materials to their clients.

Based on the sessions held to date with Ai-linh, Nathan is really enjoying her teaching style. From my perspective she is really sweet and is always punctual and consistent which has really maximised Nathan's learning and our ability to plan for effectively. Thank you for arranging for Ai-linh to assist Nathan.

Thank you for finding a new tutor so fast. I just want to let you know that even the very first session with James a great success. He is very competent, explains thins very clearly. Both of my children enjoyed it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camberwell Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Camberwell Primary School.
