I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for his/her students is to individualise the learning process. This means adapting to the individual's learning style, learning their strengths and weaknesses and tailoring the teaching style to cater for each, and keeping track of their progress. Instilling confidence in the student is also…

I believe encouragement is the most important thing a tutor can do. By focusing on what they have achieved rather then what they haven't, the children can gain a sense of self worth and achievement, making them more likely to want to learn more. By always being there to support them through difficult content, a tutor can develop trust with the…

The most crucial things a tutor can do for a student are academic supervision, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these can possibly redefine a class, subject, or school more generally for a learner. A high level of energy and patience are two of my strongest assets. I strongly rely on these traits when I'm tutoring. My…

First of all, to actually see them as an individual, not as a job, task or challenge. In terms of learning it's important to let the students figure it out themselves, kinda nudge them in the right direction, but just handing them the answer or the formula will probably hurt them in the long run. I have dealt with all kinds of kids and youth, so…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to: 1 - place a focus on topics the student is struggling with 2 - teach these topics in a way that is different from what they are being taught in class. From a basic principles foundation and adding complexity as the student understands the topic more. I am currently a 3rd-year…

Local Reviews

The tutoring has had a wonderful start. Kiera is a lovely person who was able to connect with Jackson immediately. I have no doubt Kiera is going to be of great assistant to Jackson's learning.

Inside HeathridgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Noah focused on place value to the hundreds of thousands and practiced using ascending and descending order with large numbers, as well as identifying odd and even numbers in higher ranges.

In Year 8, Keagan worked through collecting like terms in algebraic expressions and applied these skills to basic equation solving.

For a senior student, Janelle reviewed sequences and series, exploring exponential growth patterns, and tackled finance concepts such as calculating interest and depreciation.

Recent Challenges

During a recent Year 11 Maths test, one student only received 19% on the non-calculator section; as noted, "test taking technique was the most important concept for Janelle to work on."

This pattern of difficulty with exam skills and not thoroughly reading questions also appeared in Year 10 sequences and finance topics—highlighting key words was suggested but not always followed up.

In Year 8, another student avoided writing full working for two-way tables: "Connor needs to work on showing his working out, because if he gets an answer wrong he can always get follow through marks." Missed steps led to lost marks.

In Year 4, untidy exercise books with no clear structure made it hard for Marissa to track her progress or correct errors.

Recent Achievements

One Heathridge tutor recently noticed Janelle's shift from hesitancy to initiative: after struggling with take-home investigations last term, she tackled her latest one independently and achieved 71%, then went on to score 91% in a non-calculator test—her best yet.

Keagan, a high school student who used to need lots of reminders about prior content, surprised his tutor by recalling key concepts quickly and progressing into more complex algebra without hesitation.

Meanwhile, Mya (Year 5) has started using the calculator confidently for circle problems; this time, she chose to attempt the new "perimeter of a half-circle" skill herself before asking for help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Very happy with the way it is going thanks Gene. Benedict is a good tutor and Saf and I are both happy with her progress.

All going well. Aisling has connected well with Anthony and he feels that the tutoring is helping.

Karla's tutoring is going very well. Hilario has a lovely manner and approach and Karla seems to be getting on very well with him. They have talked about getting the basics right and he's teaching her tips to remember key things as Karla becomes very stressed in exams and cannot concentrate. So hopefully this approach will help.
