To effectively pass on the knowledge to the student, so that he/she can solve future problems with this new knowledge himself/herself. To give confident to the student, such that he/she believes and willing to solve relevant problems (or even life problems) in future. I am patient. I like to listen to needs of both students and parents. If my…

For me one of the most crucial aspects is to comprehend a student's academic abilities and then I will create a study schedule accordingly. Additionally, I will try to create a comfortable learning environment where the student feels at ease to ask questions and clarify doubts without any hesitation. Furthermore, I will periodically track the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment, tailor their teaching to the student's individual needs, and build the student's confidence and independence in learning. By providing clear explanations, setting achievable goals, and offering consistent feedback, a tutor can…

be there physically and mentally the use of body language eye contact and even the tone of your voice may be a factor to a client's understanding but then remembering it in 5 minutes a tutor should use active recall throughout the session, brain breaks depending on the student random quick quizzes etc. to engage clients and bring them closer…

I strongly believe as a tutor, we might have a considerable knowledge in different areas but we have to always ensure whether the students understood the basic concepts. We should always use different methodologies to teach different students so that they gain the right knowledge. Moreover, I believe a tutor should always have the capability to…

An important thing that a tutor can do is to listen to students, see where they lack, and provide constructive feedback and support. Tutors can teach students to embrace their mistakes and learn from them. I am a good listener and approachable, and I find it helpful to be able to assist the students in the right way I am patient and…

I believe that the most important thing being a tutor is to always be positive and calm. A good tutor should always motivate their students to walk on the path of truth and wisdom. Also, it’s always necessary to let the student know that they can achieve their goals by being hardworking and confident. Apart from studies, a good tutor should…

Inside Helena ValleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emmanuel reviewed **narrative writing techniques** and improved his story structure, then focused on correcting spelling errors from homework.

Year 8 student Daniel tackled **Ratios and Index Laws** using a recent practice test to target misconceptions, also practicing applying index laws in different contexts.

For Year 9, Sarah worked on **Linear Relations** by plotting points on the Cartesian plane and interpreting graph features, while also revising coordinate geometry through example questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student did not take notes on the subject and came unprepared for a test, which left her struggling with definitions and unable to recall key material; as one tutor observed, "she did not focus on definitions."

In Year 8 Maths, skipping important words in questions led to incomplete answers—misreading cost marks when interpreting what was actually being asked.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student repeatedly left homework unfinished and was distracted during lessons, making it hard to reinforce new skills.

For a younger child, anxiety about mistakes in spelling tests often resulted in shutting down before tasks were complete.

Recent Achievements

One Helena Valley tutoring session saw a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help now clearly explaining when she's confused, allowing the tutor to address gaps straight away.

In Year 8 maths, another student started using highlighters and writing out key information after struggling with multi-step problems—she finished her test more confidently than before.

A younger primary student, once easily distracted during numeracy tasks, recently completed her times tables without reminders and chose to check her own answers for accuracy at the end of the lesson.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Shivani is doing well and Elyza is fantastic! Shivani appears to be very comfortable around Elyza and is building her confidence.

The tutoring seems to be going very well so far. We have been working on the areas Mohamed has indicated Charlotte needs extra help with and his report was very helpful in this regard.

Leon has made some extreme improvement over this Term. In the last 3 weeks he has achieved 5th and 2nd!!! in the class mathematics tests. This has improved his confidence immensely and he shows more enthusiasm in his tutoring sessions. Very happy with Jordan.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Boya Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Helena Valley Primary School.
