First and foremost, a tutor has to gel up with the student, make him/her comfortable. Once that is done, the teaching method adopted must be interesting, with must include examples from daily life so that the student can relate to it easily. Moreover, a diagrammatic approach must be used while teaching, since, children tend to remember pictures…

To be a tutor, one should know what type of learning method and mode of delivery of learning to students. But most of it, a tutor should consider what the student needs. My strengths are more on the attitude I think, I am patient, love to learn, I listened, loves to facilitate, and willing to extend help to…

To help a student understand the core concepts being taught so that they can solve problems from first principles. To show a student different methods for learning effectively and to encourage them to adopt those methods. To convey the importance of being outside of one's comfort zone when it comes to learning. To teach a student the importance…

It is important to teach frameworks and critical thinking rather than boring formulas or random facts. In other words, the goal of any tutor is to teach someone how to fish and never give them fish. I strive to find familiar examples in real life that connect with the concepts we are learning to ease this process. I am able to meet my students…

Kritwick is an excellent teacher. His preparedness for our lesson was outstanding. Kritwick was able to teach me exactly what I needed and wanted to learn.

Inside HendersonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Derick focused on interpreting economic indicators like terms of trade and balance of payments using past test material.

Year 11 student Claire tackled exchange rates and monetary policy concepts, drawing on real-world examples to clarify each.

For Year 9, Caitlin worked through linear graphs and equations in mathematics, with extra time spent practicing how to set up and solve worded algebra problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 mathematics, hesitation to attempt unfamiliar exam questions meant "he had no clue how to answer" when his preferred topics didn't appear, leading to missed marks.

In another senior session, a student returning after time off struggled to recall key graphs and figures, making revision feel overwhelming.

For Year 10 English, one student avoided communicating confusion with their teacher and rarely asked clarifying questions—leaving gaps in understanding unaddressed.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 maths learner often solved problems mentally but skipped showing working on paper; as one tutor noted, "his calculations are wrong and do not give him the desired result."

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Henderson noticed that a Year 12 student, Blake, who had previously struggled with certain maths topics, was able to demonstrate solid understanding and even tackled different question styles more confidently during his practice test.

Another high schooler began actively picking out exam questions that played to his strengths—a big shift from earlier sessions where he hesitated and needed prompting—helping him maximize marks under timed conditions.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised her tutor by spotting errors in her own work for the first time and correcting them independently after initially needing step-by-step guidance.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I'd care to share something with you.  Whilst our son, Jordan has yet of course to complete his HSC and not wishing to tempt fate, his trials are over.  Last year, Y11 he received the award for #1 ranking in general maths.  Unfortunately his teacher moved overseas and let's just say the relationship between him and his new teacher wasn't as before.  His ranking swiftly dropped to sub 15!  To compound matters, 10 students during Y12 dropped down from 'advanced' to 'general' pushing Jordan's overall ranking to sub 20. Then we came to you for help.  Since Jordan has been studying with Suraj his standards steadily began improving once again and we're extremely happy to report that Jordan's overall trial's exam results pushed him up to 4th.  Remember, this included those who dropped down to 'general.'  Now that's a positive outcome.  Naturally, full credit must go to Jordan but without your assistance we would be facing a very different outcome.

Nathan has really put great effort into getting to know Ronan, what makes him tick and where he can get the best out of him.

Everything is going well so far with Georgette and Sophia seems to enjoy the hour she has with her this week.  She appreciates some of the new strategies she has learnt.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Spearwood Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coogee Primary School.
